IHG One Rewards has announced a new global promotion following a fallow two months when only targetted offers were made available.

IHG One Rewards is the loyalty scheme covering InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza and Hotel Indigo among other brands.

You need to register here.

IHG One Rewards Autumn promotion

You can learn more about IHG One Rewards in our overview article here.

How does IHG’s new bonus points promotion work?

The offer runs from 1st April to 31st May.

You must register in advance via this link. Registration is now open.

What will you earn?

As you can see:

…. you will earn 2,000 bonus points for every two cash nights you stay during the offer period.

Reward stays do NOT count.

Existing bookings DO count so there is no need to rebook anything.  Only one room per stay counts towards the offer, so if you are booking multiple rooms you should put each in a different name.

Your nights do not need to be back to back.

What is the bonus worth?

The standard earning rate in IHG One Rewards is 10 points per US$1 (79p) excluding taxes.  I value an IHG One Rewards point at 0.4p although you can often do better, which means your base return is 4p per 79p spent, ie just over 5.0%.

Of course, most HfP readers will have some sort of IHG One Rewards status.  This comes with a status bonus (applies to base points only):

  • 20% bonus for Silver Elite
  • 40% bonus for Gold Elite
  • 60% bonus for Platinum Elite
  • 100% bonus for Diamond Elite
IHG One Rewards Summer promotion

Under this offer, and assuming you do an exact multiple of two nights, you get an extra 1,000 points (£4) per night.

This means that the offer is heavily geared towards people doing low value stays at, say, Holiday Inn Express-style hotels. There isn’t much here for anyone planning a week at InterContinental Maldives.

Conclusion

£4 of bonus points per night is unlikely to move your needle much, even if your nights are all at a Holiday Inn Express.

That said, clearly you’d be silly not to register – click here to register – if you will do the nights anyway.

The offer kicks in for stays from 1st April but you can register today.

Was hoping for a more lucrative booking – like the HH double points last autumn which was great for higher end stays. Have 12 nights at ICs in Japan booked for early April so would have much preferred something to offer a few more bonus points – but free stuff is still free stuff.

  • Rob H not Rob says:

Bring back the old accelerate promos.

    • tw33ty says:

      Yes, those were fun.

This 1000 a night is just not fun or inspiring.

They would be as well just increasing the welcome points

    • Karl says:

They were great. Looked forward to seeing what you were offered and then build up loads of points, which could then be used for weekends away via the Points Break promo. Ended up going to all sorts of places that I wouldn’t have otherwise visited. Those two promos probably got about an extra 20 IHG nights per year out of me.

    • John says:

In 2014 I had 15 paid nights and those earned enough promo points for 15 free nights – the paid nights were not particularly expensive and the free nights were not all at crap HIXs. I doubt this is sustainable with today’s state of hotels in most countries.

  • newbz says:

Was just looking for a hotel in Miami – Holiday Inn / HIX cost more than 60,000 points per night… Hard to get excited about these promos and the program in general…

    • Lady London says:

Yes it’s one thing to not run any promotions that will really make you switch nights to IHG from another chain unless you were going to have to stay in that IHG anyway…. but whilst the promos really aren’t worth bothering with the points cost is spiralling up. Even, I’ve noted, at hotels where cash prices have reverted to vaguely more reasonable levels, the points totals are not sometimes ridiculous.

And then when all we’re offered is miserable 2k per night, I don’t do that for Hilton, and it doesn’t move the needle to IHG.

      • Lady London says:

It would be interesting to know if IHG and other chains are still paying what? 10%? to affiliates. That, at least, would hold up. As the % of cash paid, gets more cash presumably with higher prices of hotel rooms. Whilst the points earned are still barely worth bothering with.

  • phantomchickenz says:

Just had a (targeted?) email that on top of the above promotion, I can earn 4k points for 4 nights. So when stacked, it’s 8k points for 4 nights.

    • B Murphy-Ryan says:

got the same – registered for the 2k earlier and then email saying register again for extra 4k – result!

      • LD27 says:

I haven’t registered yet, but have just received the same email.

    • BJ says:

+1, still a bit dull as it’s still the now typical 8k for 4 nights. Good days long gone.

    • Stian says:

      Same.

  • Matarredonda says:

Brilliant got 8 stays booked in n3xt 3 weeks!
