British Airways launches flights to Nuremberg – for just six weeks

In a slightly unexpected new route announcement, British Airways is bringing back flights to Nuremberg. Nuremberg is Bavaria’s second largest city after Munich.

Pre-covid this had operated for a couple of years as a winter-only route from Gatwick, aimed at visitors to the Christmas markets, but was then dropped. In 2022 British Airways launched it as a year-round route but it didn’t last long.

It’s now back for a limited Christmas market period.

Flights start on 28th November with four flights per week on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday. The final flight will be 5th January 2025.

It’s a 5pm-ish departure from Heathrow with a 9pm-ish flight back. The exception is Monday when its a 2pm departure from London.

Flights will depart from Terminal 5, which is a change from when it was a year-round route and operated from Terminal 3.

Flights are already bookable, for cash or Avios, at ba.com.

I must of been on one of the last flights there on 24/11/22 for the Christmas markets. I didn’t know they had dropped it tbh.

    • Mark says:

I flew out a week later on the 1st of Dec, back on the 4th. I had no idea they’d dropped it either! It made a nice change from my usual German cities.

      • Gordon says:

Agree, it’s a nice clean city, the infrastructure is great, impressed with the subway from the airport, we tried Berlin last year, and trying Vienna this year.

    • Phillip says:

BA flew to NUE over the Christmas 23 period too.

  • Matthew says:

So is it fair to say this is a trial route? 🧐

    • Henry Young says:

Lol – I see what you did there !

    • Michael C says:

Great start to a Sunday, thanks!!

Was also going bonkers a couple of weeks ago trying to book this and swearing to the fam that it existed!

  • Jonty says:

Nuremburg is hone to Playmobil world, which looks fun for younger kids

  • Joe says:

l must admit to find it a bit frustrating they’re launching all these routes only a few months out. Surely people would have booked their flights for Christmas time 5 months ago?!

    • Barry cutters says:

      No

    • Jonathan says:

Maybe to South Africa using a 241 voucher in J, as it’s just about the only time to get reward J seats

    • TGLoyalty says:

Haven’t even booked my flights for summer yet

    • Richie says:

These flights are all about slot sitting at LHR. They can’t be well planned in advance.

    • Novelty-Socks says:

I mean maybe if you’re somewhat organised. We haven’t sorted our summer family break yet!

  • SteveCroydon says:

Be careful! More fantastic BA IT! I’ve had it pricing up at 26,000 Avios + £60 return to NUE. This was for peak economy return flights. Worked correctly if one sector was in Club. Moving around the calendar eventually got it to price as 19,500 + £1 with the usual other options.

  • Richie says:

I’ve booked with avios, thanks SeanM and Rob, really looking forward to the pre-christmas trip,

  • Don says:

I can recommend this small family-run hotel: https://hotel-fackelmann.de/en/

    • AirMax says:

      is there a points angle?

shame the hilton near the football stadium closed

  • Bervios says:

One small annoyance is OLCI doesn’t work at this airport( airport check in only

    • LD27 says:

Not only is there no online check in, the Lounge closes at 1900. When I was there in February, no one was allowed in after 6.30 pm. I was permitted to take a small bottle of German sparkling wine to drink outside.

I thought at the time Nuremberg would be a good place to return in December for Christmas markets.

      • Gordon says:

You didn’t miss much! I preferred the lounge at BER, T1, F&B was better, nice quiet area to view the runway, and the back exit door took you through you own immigration desk, and the gate for BA993 was a 30 second walk.

        • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

You were lucky in having a high number C gate. If you’re really unlucky you can have a high D number and that’s definitly not a 30 second walk across the entire length of the main terminal!

    • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

      Same as CGN (Cologne)

There are a small number of airports (not just german airports) where OLCI / mobile BPs aren’t available.
