Get 350 bonus Avios when you agree to auto-convert your Nectar points

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Avios has launched a new bonus for anyone who opts-in to automatically converting their Nectar points to Avios.

This offer MAY be targeted. It shows in the Nectar app for some people but not for others. It is NOT showing on the official Nectar page of ba.com.

Do NOT try to get this deal if you do not see it under ‘Partner Offers’ in the Nectar app.

Get 350 bonus Avios when you agree to auto-convert your Nectar points

The standard conversion rate of Nectar points to Avios is 400 : 250.

As a Nectar point is worth 0.5p when spent at Sainsburys, Argos, eBay etc, you are giving up £2 of free shopping in return for 250 Avios. In other words, you are buying Avios for 0.8p. This is a decent deal.

Until 7th August, you will receive 350 bonus Avios if you agree to auto-convert your Nectar points into Avios and transfer at least 800 Nectar points.

(For clarity, there is no bonus in the opposite direction. The rate from Avios into Nectar remains at the devalued 400:400.)

This is a decent deal if you only have a modest number of Nectar points, but at least 800. Someone with exactly 800 Nectar points would receive 500 base Avios + 350 bonus Avios, for a total of 850 Avios.

Obviously if you have 8,000 Nectar points, worth 5,000 Avios, the extra 350 is neither here nor there and you should arguably wait for a better incentive.

Get 350 bonus Avios when you auto-convert your Nectar points

What is the small print?

There doesn’t seem to be much, which is good.

The offer runs to 7th August.

You need to set up auto-convert on your Nectar account and have at least 800 Nectar points transfer to Avios by 7th August.

You do NOT receive the bonus immediately. It will post by 4th September.

Nothing stops you deactivating auto-convert later but I would wait until you have received the bonus.

You can see full details on how to auto-convert on ba.com here or the Nectar site here.

As a reminder, do NOT take part in this offer if you can’t see if promoted in the Nectar app – it appears to be targeted.

  • BA Flyer IHG Stayer says:

Handy because the bonus from the June offer just landed in my account as per the timeframe in the T&Cs!

  • Lawrence says:

Handy for me as I build a small (ish) number of nectar points, and it’s a nice little bonus sum that’s just enough to be meaningful, but not so much that a casual nectar collector like me will make different choices

  • Tracey says:

With fraud on nectar points so prevalent, I’d be wary of leaving the accounts linked.

    • Sudz74 says:

Ok it’s early in the morning but why? Surely it could be better to have them linked that way the nectar points are in Avios rather than Nectar? (I thought Nectar points were most likely to be stolen.)

      • Tracey says:

Given the vulnerability of a nectar account, I don’t want it linked to anything valuable.

        • BBbetter says:

The vulnerability is leaving points in nectar account. Not the linkage to other programs.

  • Sudz74 says:

Anecdotally only main account holder not (up to 3 as we have) secondary cards have this offer which makes sense – was wondering what would happen if all cards applied this offer! Some Nectar-Avios offers appear on all cards or seemingly random cards.

  • drdan says:

Guys and Gals… Just as an FYI… I did this yesterday and sent it to Rob…but it first got set up the wrong way..avios to nectar!! I went to my email and noticed the error, cancelled and reapplied… A school boy error but could have been a nasty surprise Monday!!

    • Sudz74 says:

Yes, default is Avios-Nectar (which is a bit odd as aren’t they encouraging Nectar-Avios transfers?)

    • E says:

Oops, just noticed I’d done the same. Thanks @drdan for the post! Now corrected.

      • drdan says:

Couldn’t believe the way it had been set up avios to nectar…crazy!! Glad I noticed..

  • Sudz74 says:

Interestingly only the first 40,000 a quarter are converted- will limit my conversion assuming the over-50 life insurance bonus arrives in September. Doesn’t define when the quarter starts but presumably 1st July-30 September. Is this the limit period for manual conversion? (Have overcome limit before on manual conversion using other cards on same Nectar account/Avios HHA.)

  • Greenpen says:

I don’t have this offer, but I convert regularly as soon as I accumulate 400 Nectar points. And have been on auto previously.

  • AJA says:

I have this offer but don’t want to participate. I prefer to control when and how many NP I convert to Avios. I like having two separate pots. And since conversion from Avios to Nectar is a worse rate I don’t ever do conversions in that direction.

I’m guessing the offer is because fewer people auto convert than BA would like. I also think that more people still convert Avios to NP than convert NP to Avios.
