NEW: Earn Virgin Points with every Virgin Wines purchase

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Virgin Wines has finally become a full Virgin Red partner. It has run various offers in the past to earn points, and wine is a popular redemption for Virgin Points, but you have never been able to earn Virgin Points on every Virgin Wines purchase.

Now you can.

Effective immediately, you can add your Virgin Red number to your Virgin Wines account. You will earn two Virgin Points for every £1 spent at Virgin Wines going forward.

Earn Virgin Points with Virgin Wines

If you do not have a Virgin Red account but do have a Virgin Flying Club account, you will need to download the Virgin Red app, sign up and link your Flying Club account. Your existing points balance will then be usable in the app. If you join Virgin Red via this referral link you will get 1,000 bonus points with your first earn transaction.

To promote the new partnership, Virgin Red released some interesting statistics about the sort of member that redeems Virgin Points on wine:

  • the average age of a wine redeemer is 53 (compared to a surprisingly high 46 years old for Virgin Red overall – those attempts to get down with the kids don’t seem to be working)
  • 71% of wine redeemers are aged 45+
  • only 8% of wine redeemers are aged under 35 – younger members are more likely to redeem for gift cards, Greggs products or train tickets

The Virgin Wines website is here.

A little further from home, the JR Station Hotel Osaka opened as an Autograph Collection hotel on 31st July. I don’t know if this is a new build or a rebrand.

BTW and OT, the new Plaza Premium lounge near Osaka Station doesn’t accept Priority Pass. Dragon Pass is accepted.

Morning all, looking for some guidance please. Are LATAM flights from Sydney to Santiago bookable with Avios? Tried looking at the BA website but nothing was appearing using a variety of different dates. Are these just very difficult to find?

    • JDB says:

Yes, you can book Avios flights on LATAM via BA or Iberia (and maybe others?) but I think they restrict availability to partners, especially on these prime routes. I think that route may also be quite expensive in Avios (c.150k in business?) , annoyingly just falling in to a higher mileage point.

      • Newbie says:

Many thanks for this, much appreciated )

        • meta says:

Don’t book via Iberia unless you are certain about dates as all redemptions apart from Iberia and BA are non-refundable.

New London hotels rather than points-related: the new Premier Inn directly opposite Paddington Station on Eastbourne Terrace (Liz line entrance) is due to open on 12 August. Rooms under £100 currently showing near the Aug bank holiday and run up to Christmas. Great location for anyone looking for a central London stopover with an easy hop to LHR. They’ve done a very nice job taking a 60s office block back to the core/frame and refitting it entirely. (I don’t work for them but live nearby…)

    • ChrisBCN says:

Thanks, I need to be in London a couple of days after that so I might check it out

  • The Original David says:

Debatable whether Paddington can reasonably be considered central London, but can’t argue with £100/night!

  • Simon says:

Which was the main reason for posting it😉 Liz line gets you to Bond Street in 5 mins and Soho/Dean St door to door in under 10 mins (all being well!)
