Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

ENDS 10pm: Buy Avios for just 0.88p via Finnair Plus!

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Finnair (yes Finnair, not British Airways) has been running a VERY attractive ‘buy Avios’ bonus promotion.

You will receive a 50% discount when you buy Avios.

This takes the price down to 0.88p! It is the cheapest ‘buy Avios’ deal we have seen for a LONG time.

10pm tonight UK time (Wednesday) is your deadline to jump in.

You can buy on this page of the Finnair Plus website.

NEW: Buy Avios for 0.88p via Finnair Plus!

The Avios can only be credited to a Finnair Plus account. You can move them into a British Airways Executive Club account by linking your BA and Finnair Plus accounts via the process here.

Please don’t be put off by this because it is a very simple process:

That’s it!

How many Avios can you buy?

There is no minimum purchase, although your bonus depends on how many Avios you buy.

The discount is staggered:

  • 35% off when you buy 5,000 to 19,000 Avios (1.43 cents = 1.19p)
  • 40% off when you buy 20,000 to 49,000 Avios (1.32 cents = 1.10p)
  • 45% off when you buy 50,000 to 74,000 Avios (1.21 cents = 1.01p)
  • 50% off when you buy 75,000 to 200,000 Avios (1.05 cents = 0.88p)

What does it cost?

At the top end, you will pay 0.88p per Avios under this offer.

Transactions are charged in Euros, so you will pay slightly more if your credit or debit card adds a 2.99% foreign exchange fee.

The most you can buy is 200,000 Avios for €2,100.

Based on my spreadsheet of the last 9 million Avios I redeemed, I got 1.23p of value – and this is based on very conserative valuations for the flights I booked. If you have a plan to use the Avios, because you should never buy speculatively, then this is a very good opportunity.

You can check pricing and buy on this page of the Finnair website.

The offer ends at 10pm today, 20th November.

Perhaps it’s obvious to all, but the offer ends at 10pm UK time.

  • Rob says:

    Corrected! Thanks

  • Barracough says:

I linked Finnair with BA six months ago but bought my first Avios from Finnair this morning. It went through OK but I’m not able to do a transfer from Finnair to BA. It is possible to transfer from BA to Finnair as I did a nominal 5 Avios test but transfers from Finnair are not possible, at least for me. I can contact Finnair Customer Services but has anyone here had problems and a solution?

    • Barracough says:

I’ve still not been able to make a transfer of Avios and therefore contracted the BA chat line and was told that the transfer service is currently unavailable due to a technical issue. I’ll try again tomorow but if anyone does a succesful transfer today from Finnair to BAEC it would be good to know.

  • Andrew Halket says:

Still cheaper at any level other than the top to get Avios through Avios boost (if you have Avios to boost!). A bit under 1p each at Avios boost.

    • Andrew Halket says:

…which you can “boost” further buying with BAPP then again fronting with B’Card through Curve…

The games that can be played to eek out the value…

  • HH says:

Did this over the weekend, my only tip to those who choose 2FA by SMS is to keep trying again and again until you get the code – it does eventually come through after repeated attempts.

  • Neil MacPherson says:

There are or were some issues with the two factor authentication. Finnair admitted to me that they have problems with texting codes to buyers for transfers to BA, so eventually I had to use the other method ( authentication app).

    • Rob says:

It was screwed up a few months ago when I moved my old Finnair balance across to Avios. Struggling to see how tricky it is to send a text but they seem to have found a way. I eventually went onto chat and had 2FA disabled – this is an option in your account settings but of course you need to log in first to turn it off ….

  • Veyron says:

Purchased 75k Avios a couple of days ago as they were cheaper than the 71k I actually needed for planned redemptions due to the 50% discount kicking in. Had to do this twice as the first transaction didn’t go through with points.com for some reason but I wasn’t charged on my Curve card.

Could not link accounts because no matter how many times I tired, I would not receive the 2FA code via text. Used the chat feature to get 2FA disabled where the agent told me texts just don’t work for some countries and to use an Authenticator app instead. I downloaded the Google one and did it easily using that by simply scanning a QR code on Finnair. The Avios appeared in my BAEC account within minutes.

My advice is just download and use the Google Authenticator app in the first instance to avoid the hassle and delay. It is available on iOS and Android. You don’t even need to be signed in. Hope this helps.

  • Vit says:

I have got shy of 600k in my household account. I am really two-minded in buying more knowing this is a very good opportunity but quite concerned about devaluation. I guess it is just risk-taking decision. With little one now needing his own seat, I guess it is a must though as I think one RT to the East now cost ~400k avios for 3 of us.
