NOW LIVE: Get free TOP-TIER Radisson VIP status for 2025 from your airline or hotel status

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

If you have any level of airline elite status, or mid tier or higher status with any major hotel group, you can now claim a full year of top-tier Radisson Rewards VIP hotel status.

The match is totally free and, as I found in Sheffield recently, the new Radisson Rewards VIP tier does seem to deliver.

You get your VIP status via Club Avolta, the loyalty programme for the World Duty Free retail group.

Radisson Rewards VIP status match

This is a two stage process:

  • you need to get a free status match to Platinum in Club Avolta using your existing airline or hotel status (instructions here)
  • you match your Platinum status in Club Avolta to VIP status in Radisson Rewards (this only went live yesterday, instructions below)

How do you get Platinum status in Club Avolta?

I don’t intend to repeat what I wrote in this article here last week.

All you need to know is that if you have any level of airline elite status (BA Bronze or Virgin Atlantic Silver are good enough) or mid-tier hotel status (Gold with Accor, Gold with Hilton, Explorist with Hyatt, Gold with IHG, Gold with Marriott etc), you qualify.

How do you get Radisson Rewards VIP status?

The details are now in the Club Avolta app. It is bizarrely hidden:

  • look under the ‘Rewards’ tab and scroll down – you may see a Radisson tile
  • if you don’t, click on your home airport at the top of the screen and change it to ‘Shopping’ (yes, I know, it’s weird). Go back to the ‘Rewards’ tab and scroll down – the Radisson tile will now be there
Radisson Hotels VIP status match

However, you don’t need to see the tile to apply.

This is what you need to do:

  • go to the ‘Wallet’ tab in the Club Avolta app and take a screenshot showing your name and Platinum status
  • email the screenshot and your Radisson Rewards number to loyaltypartnerupgrade [at] radissonhotels.com

Your Radisson Rewards status will be upgraded to VIP. It isn’t fully clear when it expires – the email you receive says 31st December 2025 whilst your online card shows October 2025. (EDIT: comments below suggest that existing members may only get their current year extended which could be shorter.)

What does Radisson Rewards VIP status get you?

Quite a bit. Details are on the Radisson website here.

You get:

  • free breakfast for two people
  • an upgrade to the best available room in the hotel at the time of check-in (suites excluded, although hotels can obviously choose to give suites if they wish)
  • 15% off food and drink purchased in the hotel
  • access to ‘Discount Booster’ which lets you get an additional cash saving of 10% or so off the lowest rate in return for earning a lower rate of points (this does genuinely beat any other rate you will find)

There are also early check-in and late check-out benefits but these are not guaranteed.

At Radisson Collection, art’otel and Holmes Hotel properties you can also get one free piece of ironing done!

To renew your VIP status you will need to do 20 stays or 30 nights during 2025.

Conclusion

This is an excellent opportunity to get top-tier hotel status from bottom-tier airline status or mid-tier hotel status elsewhere.

I know that a lot of HfP readers swore never to visit a Radisson again after their points were devalued by 66% overnight with no notice back in 2022. I don’t blame them, but you would be turning down some good benefits here.

Of course, I suspect that these two events are connected. After alienating all of its elite members back in 2022, it needs to recruit a replacement set of elite members. It’s unfortunate that a lot of HfP readers are going to do very nicely from this match due to another group of HfP readers losing out, some substantially.

Remember that this is a two stage match. You need to first use your airline or hotel status to match to Club Avolta (this should take 24 hours to complete, the instructions are here) and you then submit your status match application to Radisson Rewards.

Remember that if you are not already a Radisson Rewards member, my refer-a-friend link here gets you 5,000 bonus points after your first stay.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2025)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.

We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here. You can apply here.

Got a small business?

You can get free top-tier Radisson Rewards VIP status with the new Capital on Tap Pro Visa credit card for small business. Clck here to apply.

I’ll take free breakfast and upgrades for a year with the discount booster prices to be fair.

The search results on their app are crazy. Searching for a hotel in Glasgow next week, it’s giving options as far away as Nottingham and some hotels in Ireland

  • Tariq says:

Thanks, emailed early this morning and just had a confirmation that it’s been actioned.

Anyone know if the pool at art’hotel Hoxton is open now? Any recommendations for good room type to go for? Doesn’t look much to choose between them.

  • patrick says:

Devaluation was a disgrace but I shall not be penalising myself twice by ignoring such a great opportunity as this. That would be like voting for Brexit again.

  • Kirkie says:

Once you’ve got the top Tier Radisson status (and I’ve applied today), can you use that to status-match into any other reward programmes top tiers? I’m already Hilton Diamond (through stays) and BA silver (through flights), and have the Amex Platinum, so status in several hotels… but would be interested if this will help me upgrade anywhere else.

I only stay at Radissons a few times a year if there’s deals on, generally.

  • PeterK says:

As an existing Club Avolta platinum member, I applied at 07:30 today and my VIP status match became live early this afternoon. No formal confirmation from RR has been received as yet confirming the match, but a request from RR to compete a satisfaction survey at 14:54 prompted me to check my account, it was already showing as VIP.

    • Rob says:

Bizarrely efficient, given that Radisson must have had a huge influx today.

    • AndyM says:

Check you spam folder as I found 2 emails from them confirming acceptance in there, 3 hours after I applied.

      • PeterK says:

Andy, indeed RR did send a confirmation email at 14:44 that went into my spam. VIP validity stated in the email to 31 December 2025.

  • Vit says:

Hi Rob et al, I am trying to book a participating Radisson hotel in Helsinki with the £50 back with £250 cumulative spend Amex offer.

Towards the end of the booking, it took me to “Guarantee your booking” page which say:

    Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, Helsinki
    Total price: 123.59 EUR
    To pay now: 0.0 EUR

I am not too sure if it will take the payment now (preferably as the offer expires on 20th Dec) or later (in which I will have to call the hotel to take the payment before 20th Dec, a bit of a faff).

Anyone had experienced this before please?

    • Vit says:

Also just to add, has anyone succeed with this Amex offer while make booking through app? It is obviously cheaper but I did not want to risk it with Amex T&C said “online”. Many thanks.

    • Rob says:

That’s a ‘pay on departure’ rate.

You’re just guaranteeing it with a credit card, but no payment will be taken unless you’re a no-show.

      • Vit says:

Thanks Rob. I did choose the non-refundable rate but it still lead me to that page. For the sake of £50, I am not keen on spending time calling the hotel or faffing with Amex at all. 🙂

        • NorthernDave says:

I’ve had a couple of those recently which have indicated “guarantee your booking” but have then charged my card within a couple of days of the booking and well before the planned date of my stay – not been a problem just frustrating that you don’t know what they are going to do so not helpful for offers

  • Veyron says:

Does anyone know if this is a permanent offer or limited time? I’m a Hilton Diamond and will only be staying with them whilst I have status until 2026. Thinking of switching to Radisson after that if this offer is still available then.

    • Rob says:

No idea. What is almost certainly true is that it’s a one-off match, so I would hold off given what you said. Even if Avolta stops offering it I suspect there will be other routes – this is the 3rd route to VIP we’ve seen recently (SAS EuroBonus match, Capital On Tap Pro credit card, Avolta).

  • Lee says:

Thanks for this, Rob. I was never a Radisson Rewards member so no animosity re their 2022 devaluation (though sympathetic to fellow HFPers and I will keep in mind the possibility of a repeat offence)
So applied for this this morning (I was Club Avolta Plat anyway) and hopefully look forward to a year of perks at Radissons.
And not sure if it’s related or pure coincidence but I just had an email from Flying Blue advising I am now a Flying Blue Ultimate Member – which is a nice surprise, I only joined Flying Blue for a bonus when linking it to my Accor All a few years ago (also thanks to an HFP tip) and have never used it nor ever flown Air France or KLM. ?
