How to book a low cost ‘day room’ at a Hilton hotel

Hilton has quietly been rolling out its ‘rooms for day use’ service over the last few years.

This allows you to book a hotel room for the working day – the idea is to compete with the likes of Regus and WeWork who rent private offices by the day.

The hours offered vary by hotel but usually start at 9am or 10am and end at anywhere between 4pm and 6pm.

Hilton day offices

I used this offer heavily during the pandemic in October / November 2020, when some Hilton hotels in London were offering rooms at £30 or £40 per day.

Stacked with the ‘2,000 bonus points per stay’ offer that was running at the time, plus double elite night credits, it paid for itself and I ended up with Hilton Honors Diamond status!  You won’t get that pricing now, unfortunately.

How do you book a Hilton day room?

These rooms are very easy to book online.  Simply visit hilton.com and set your check-in and check-out date to be the same.

Day rooms are no longer bargains. Looking at next Wednesday, the best deal in London is the Hampton by Hilton London Docklands, near Excel, for £80.

Other sensibly priced options include:

  • DoubleTree London Excel at £89
  • Hampton London Old Street at £90 (image above)
  • DoubleTree London Greenwich at £96
  • Hilton London Kensington at £98
  • The Westminster at £110

The Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow (by Hatton Cross tube station) is the cheapest airport option at £65 if you have a long layover next Wednesday.

Remember that you will earn Hilton Honors points and elite night credit on these bookings.

If you want an example of how the service works, Rhys wrote a review of his ‘day office’ trial at DoubleTree Tower of London here.

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Hilton Honors points and status from UK credit cards (April 2025)

There are various ways of earning Hilton Honors points from UK credit and debit cards.  Many cards also have generous sign-up bonuses.

There are two dedicated Hilton Honors debit cards. These are especially attractive when spending abroad due to the 0% or 0.5% FX fee, depending on card.

You also receive FREE Hilton Honors status for as long as you hold the debit cards – Gold status with the Plus card and Silver status with the basic card. This is a great reason to apply even if you rarely use it.

We reviewed the Hilton Honors Plus Debit Card here and the Hilton Honors Debit Card here.

You can apply for either card here.

There is another way of getting Hilton Honors status, and earning Hilton Honors points, from a payment card.

Holders of The Platinum Card from American Express receive FREE Hilton Honors Gold status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Marriott Bonvoy Gold, Radisson Rewards Premium and MeliaRewards Gold status.

We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here and you can apply here.

Any experiences on how responsive other hotels are to asking for this?
I was close to it being relevant at an InterCity airport hotel.

    • memesweeper says:

In the UK it’s widely available – check out “day rooms” online.

Hilton has the best system as it is integrated with their normal online bookings, loyalty etc. i’ve never tried this, but presumably as a Gold you could grab breakfast if it was still open!

Foreign airport hotels are often inflexible about not taking a whole day in my experience – if they are not on “day rooms”, or Hilton, or offer a per hour rate on their own website, you may as well not bother asking.

      • Ben B says:

Yes, as gold you should be on the ‘list’ for breakfast – and in fact when booking a day room, the app shows the pop-up offering ‘complimentary breakfast with your stay’ which I always screen capture in case of later debates about it. In practice I just head straight to the restaurant and I’ve never been refused.

      • Arun says:

I used day rooms before Xmas to earn double nights with the Hilton for Business offer, to reach Diamond, and earned the bonus at the time of 2500 points per stay,

        • John says:

@Arun Did you have to check in each day in person, or was it sufficient to book and pre pay?

          • Arun says:

I lived, and worked close by so decided not to take any chances, and checked in, and popped into the room as well. Emails offer digital key, but not available in app. Free breakfast for partner and I as I was Gold.

“Foreign airport hotels are often inflexible about not taking a whole day in my experience…”

And mine too. The Hilton at GVA, I think, wanted to charge the rate for a two-night stay once: the night before and the night after! That said, I tried again a year later and it was merely ‘expensive’ instead of ‘outrageous’.

  • CamFlyer says:

Around 2 years ago, I used dayuse.co.uk during a long layover in Abu Dhabi. It offered a range of properties on a similar basis to that described here. No points, but otherwise it did exactly what I needed: swimming pool, bed and shower for family entertainment and rest.

  • Ryan says:

I had a room booked at MIA through dayuse last year. No points, but stay was credited to HH.

  • Panda Mick says:

I’ve stayed in the Waldorf on Aldwych a few times, as a cheaper way of keeping diamond, but also once because their TV channels showed the F1! I seem to remember paying £89 or so. The Doubletree Chelsea Harbour also has day rooms and I’ve managed to grab breakfast there

  • Harry Holden says:

For an 8 hour layover in LHR, I used the Hilton T4. Although it was advertised as 9am to 5pm, I E-Mailed the hotel and asked if it would be available from 7am to 1pm which they were happy to accomodate.

It is not immediately apparent how to book online, but on Hilton.com, just enter the arrival and departure dates as the same date and the day rooms will show.

  • Aaron C says:

Does Mrs Rob know he rents hotel rooms by the hour! 🙂

  • oldak says:

In Japan, they call these Love Hotels.

  • ianM says:

Yes very useful for meetings of the loving kind 😉

I have noticed that Hilton have upped their prices for day use to almost the same as an overnight in many cases so much less value in the past year or so.
