EXCLUSIVE: Hilton to open UK’s largest Hampton in Manchester

Hilton will be opening the UK’s largest Hampton by Hilton hotel later this year on Deansgate in Manchester.

The hotel will have ‘over 350’ rooms and – if it is where we think it is – sits in a 22 storey tower which has just topped out. It overhangs the Deansgate Castlefield viaduct used by Metrolink.

The project was orginally signed off as an apartment hotel, to be operated by Staycity. There has been no announcement that Staycity is no longer attached to the project but the company has confirmed to us that this is the case.

Hampton 325 Deansgate Manchester

The site is an interesting one. As you can see from the image above, Hampton Manchester Deansgate sits in front of Beetham Tower which is where you will find the Hilton Manchester Deansgate hotel.

Beetham Tower was the original modern Manchester skyscraper (the CIS Tower dates from 1962) although it is no longer the tallest building in the city.

It appears that the new Hampton will impact the views from many of the rooms at the Hilton. According to an industry friend in Manchester, there is speculation that the Hilton may be reflagged with the management contract rumoured to be up for renewal in 2026, the 20th anniversary of opening.

@Rob – in a review of the Marriott Berlin, you suggested it was one of the best Marriotts in the world. Where do you regard it v JW Marriott Berlin (which is a higher brand, but seems to typically price about 20% lower)

    • Rob says:

My understanding (having only been in the JW’s lobby) is that the lobby / restaurant has been refurbed but the rooms haven’t yet been touched. I could be wrong but that was the position last time we wrote about it.

Location is not great in my view but I have a soft spot for Potsdamer Platz where the Marriott and R-C sit, almost side by side.

It’s also a h-u-g-e hotel, potentially bigger than you would want. It’s basically a conference hotel. Not sure how price compared to the R-C but the R-C is lovely after the refurb (I was there last week).

As well as the excellent breakfast (main dining area) the staff in the exec lounge, breakfast and front desk were excellent in the Hilton.

One pendant note though…. The original skyscraper in Manchester was the CIS Tower (although I’m sure I can be corrected in that 😂).

@Dirtyneedlebluesky if you’re going to be pedantic at least make sure you get the spelling right!

      • Bagoly says:

        @Guernsey Globetrotter
For those of us ignorant of Manchester, could you explain the spelling point?
Wikipedia does have an entry for the CIS Tower.

  • BrianN says:

I’m assuming the spelling point was referring to pendant
