How to link British Airways Club and Loganair Loyalty accounts to earn and redeem Avios

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Loganair Loyalty launched yesterday, with Avios as its loyalty currency.

You can now earn and spend Avios on Loganair flights, by linking your British Airways Club account to a Loganair Loyalty account. Loganair redemptions are excellent value as we will show.

This is how you do it.

How to use Avios on Loganair

How to open a Loganair Loyalty account

You can open a Loganair Loyalty account here.

IMPORTANT: You must use the same email addess, as well as the same first name and surname, as your British Airways Club account. If you don’t, you won’t be able to link your two accounts.

You need to be 18+ to open an account.

How to link your Loganair and British Airways accounts

Go to this page of the new avios.com website.

You will see links to all Avios transfer partners including Finnair, Qatar Airways, Nectar and BPme.

2FA is required twice – once with BA and once with Loganair. All of my Loganair emails went into spam so if you don’t receive one, try there.

How to transfer Avios between Loganair and British Airways

Once your accounts have been linked, it shouldn’t need to be done again.

You can transfer Avios by going back to the same page of avios.com and clicking the Loganair button.

In my experience, you need to attempt a transfer TWICE. The first time will trigger a 2FA security check. Once passed, you will be put back to the transfer page. Attempt the transfer again and it will go through with no additional security.

Remember that:

  • transfers are instant
  • transfers are free
  • transfers can be done multiple times in either direction
How to use Avios on Loganair

IMPORTANT: As with transfers to Finnair and Qatar Airways, you can only move Avios in your OWN account to Loganair. There is no facility to move Avios from other people in your household account.

If you don’t have enough Avios in your own account for the booking you need, you can use the Finnair website to move Avios between members of your household account for €10.

Where does Loganair fly?

A slightly out of date route list is in this HfP article.

Key destinations include Aberdeen, Belfast City, Dundee, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Inverness, Isle of Man, Kirkwall, London Heathrow, Sumburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Newquay, Southampton and Stornoway.

Once we get the data from Cirium we will publish an up-to-date version, although the one linked above is 90% accurate.

How to book Avios flights with Loganair

Once you’ve transferred Avios to your new Loganair Loyalty account, you can get booking.

The standard Loganair booking page has a ‘Redeem Clan Points’ tick box which may have been renamed ‘Redeem Avios’ by the time you read this!

There are a few things to know about Avios redemptions on Loganair:

  • all tickets come with a 15kg checked baggage allowance, a 6kg hand luggage allowance (plus a handbag) and a free snack and drink
  • you need to pay for seat selection – there is no waiver for British Airways elites
  • Avios seats cannot be cancelled or refunded
  • date and route changes are possible for a fee subject to Avios seat availability
  • taxes and charges apply
  • you cannot redeem Avios for flights between the islands of Orkney because these flights are funded by a Government grant
  • you cannot book Loganair redemptions on ba.com – you must transfer your Avios to a Loganair Loyalty account

How many Avios do you need for Loganair flights?

It’s an idiot-proof system!

Every one-way flight is 6,500 Avios.

Flights from Heathrow to Kirkwall and Sumburgh have a stop in Dundee. These are treated as a single flight so you still only pay 6,500 Avios each way.

Remember that Loganair’s aircraft have no more than 72 seats – many have fewer – so Avios availability will be restricted. There is no guaranteed availability as you get with British Airways, Iberia, Finnair and Qatar Airways.

How much are the taxes and charges?

Here is a taxes and charges example for a one-way flight from Heathrow to Derry:

Loganair cash fares can be steep, especially on the Highlands and Islands routes. Even this ticket to Derry would be £117 for cash, so you’re getting 1.4p per Avios.

Here’s a one way from Kirkwall in Orkney to Heathrow:

How to redeem Avios on Loganair

This ticket is £255 for cash, one way, so you’re getting 3.3p per Avios.

How many Avios do I earn on Loganair cash flights?

Whilst this article is focused on Loganair redemptions using Avios, you can earn Avios in a Loganair Loyalty account when you take a Loganair cash flight.

The Avios can be transferred into a linked British Airways Club account.

It’s a very simple earning structure depending on which fare type you buy:

  • Fly – 410 Avios each way
  • Fly Flex – 650 Avios each way
  • Fly Flex+ – 1,300 Avios each way

Conclusion

I am pleasantly surprised by everything above.

I was concerned that we may see a move to revenue based redemptions, but we haven’t. The model of 6,500 Avios each way is easy to understand and there is some really good value to be had. We will be reviewing a Loganair flight soon.

  • Swiss Jim says:

Sign up very easy. No spam. No double 2FA. Site a bit clunky in terms of searching for available flights, but a useful addition. Lots of places I’ve thought of going to which are now suddenly easily accessible from local airport…

  • david says:

Very happy. In a roundabout way I see it as a great way to boost the local destinations economy as I would now be more inclined to visit.

  • Dubious says:

    Great!
    Registered, Logged-in, Transfered Avios Over…
Just a tad disappointed that there is no avios availability for the date and route I have been waiting to book. 🙁

Could be good next time though.

  • david says:

They seem to fly to Norway and Denmark from NCL and ABZ. Wonder if thats actually really the case?

    • Rob says:

Yes – lot of oil industry business.

    • Chris H says:

I was a bit confused about why international flights weren’t mentioned in the article, are the taxes and fees the same?

  • Swiss Jim says:

With some long layovers in ABZ, how easy it is to pop into town for a look around? How long realistically would be minimum needed?

    • Owen Rudge says:

727 bus runs every 15 minutes or so for most of the day and takes maybe 40-45 minutes into town. Check-in and security at ABZ don’t usually take too long outside of peak periods.

    • Garry Flaws says:

From airport to city centre by road would normally be around 25 minutes but could be considerably more depending on traffic and time of day.
Very good frequent bus service to city centre, taxis generally available but have encountered long wait times again depends on time of day and are fairly expensive due to airport for pick up and drop off charges.

    • Swiss Jim says:

      Thanks @OwenRudge, @GarryFlaws

  • Sean Bhalach says:

If one already has a Clan Loganair account, does that automatically become a Loyallty Account, or do you need to open a new account?

  • Bill says:

Can’t book using Avios on ba.com.

I can’t book MAD-LHR-IOM using Avios but I can book it using cash on ba.com

I contacted Loganair who told me it should be bookable on ba.com and told me to contact BA.

    I give up

  • Andrew. says:

This has prompted a tidy up for me too.

Should I be able to transfer Avios from AerLingus to BA? I’ve got a few thousand sitting there and can’t see how to move them. Going via the link in the story, it gives me the option to transfer from Qatar, Finnair, Nectar, BP, Friends & Family, and LoganAir.

    • Rob says:

Yes but it has been buggy for a while.

      • Barrel for Scraping says:

The combine my Avios page on the Iberia site still seems to work. So maybe the best way to do it is to use that page to move the Aer Lingus points to Iberia and then move them to BA

It seems things are a total mess with transferring Avios. All the new partners QR, AY, LM have to go via BA, the original partners use combine my Avios which seems to be broken everywhere but the Iberia site. Then just to show the complete disarray in IAG IT, there’s a third method used to move points to/from Vueling and Iberia. This is using a site called Avios wallet which was clearly intended to be a location for all the partners to view Avios but only supports Vueling and Iberia at present

    • Ian says:

Combine my Avios rarely works but if you login to your Aer Club account and go to the Contact Us section, you can use the chat function and an agent will transfer your Avios to your BA account, or vice versa.
