London Southend airport unveils its refurbished SKYLIFE Lounge

The SKYLIFE Lounge at London Southend airport has been closed for some time, with Priority Pass customers sent to a reserved part of The Pilot Cafe instead.

With the summer season in full swing and easyJet launching its new base at the airport (see our story here), the lounge has reopened with a new look.

How to access the SKYLIFE Lounge

Opening hours are 4am to 8pm daily.

Priority Pass and all other major lounge club cards are accepted.

You can pre-book a slot using Priority Pass or similar for a payment of £7 per person. This will guarantee you entry.

Pre-paid entry for cash without a lounge club card is £35, or £39 to include fast track security.

    I’ll probably avoid Southend airport, it being approximately 60 miles away from where I live, Heathrow being 45 minutes away. The main point is minimising time spent on the M25…

    Whilst I won’t be using it I’m quite impressed to see a decent protein item on a PP menu. We’ll see how long that lasts…

    If you have an option to fly from Southend DO IT!

    What an amazing little airport.

    We flew on the second day of operations.

    The long stay car park is closer than most short stays at other airports.

    If you travel by train the terminal is less than 100 yards from the platform.

    Once inside check in was swift, upstairs we breezed straight through security due much in part to the new style scanners so no need to empty everything from your bag.

    The lounge is a mere 20 yards from security. It’s bright, airy and comfortable. A great drink and adequate food selection.

    Lounge to gate in less than 30 seconds!

    On our return. From touchdown to car took less than 20 minutes.

    The time saved pre and post flight more than makes up for travel to other London airports.

    But what we liked most of all were the staff!!!!

    I can’t remember the last time I visited an airport where every single member of staff seemed genuinely pleased to see you!

    I didn’t take a photo but trains in to London arrive and depart before and after the first and last flights of the day and don’t forget there’s an excellent holiday inn next door for those really early flights.

    If you get the opportunity to fly from SEN do it, I you won’t regret it.

    We’ve already got another trip booked and it won’t be our last.

      The entire airport (at least when i travelled for an 8pm flight) was pretty much empty, i was pleasantly surprised by the lounge, thou i found their bar service pretty slow as you had to wait for one of the lounge staff to finish what they were doing before they would serve you a drink. That said this is now my “go-to” airport to get to Faro since BA effectively broke up with me by changing our relationship “status”.

      I don’t think the likes of Gatwick, Stansted, Luton etc state that they are “in london” they say they service or have easy transport links, which is true of any city really.

      London City and Heathrow are the only airports inside the M25 and heathrow only just!

      London Southend is the same distance outside London as London Stansted. And similar to Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo Narita. “London Oxford” is rather more questionable!

        It’s when you use Ryanair if travelling to Paris and I think Oslo, is when people get caught out !

        Another pitfall people also probably don’t notice is to or from Sharjah and their next flight (same day) is say with Etihad !
