Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Oman Air’s oneworld alliance entry date is confirmed

We have been waiting a long time for Oman Air to join the oneworld airline alliance.

This will allow you to redeem (and earn) Avios on Oman Air flights. With British Airways no longer flying to Muscat, and Oman Air offering a high quality product, this is worth a look.

Whilst there has been no media release, various documents sent to travel agents in recent days confirm what I was told by the UK team a couple of months ago and, indeed, had been reported since last year. Oman Air will join oneworld on 30th June.

I suspect that a lot of Avios availability will be showing on Day 1, but that it will quickly be snapped up.

We ran two hotel reviews in 2023 after my last visit – the beach resort of Jumeirah Muscat Bay and the mountain resort of Alila Jabal Akhdar. An older review of The Al Bustan Palace, A Ritz Carlton Hotel, is here.

New openings this year have included a Hotel Indigo in the mountains near Alila and a St Regis resort in Muscat.

We will try to do a fresh flight review before the end of the year.

@Rob Apologies for the off-thread comment, but wanted to point folk towards something they might be interested in…

‘Look at Life’ was a series of short documentary films produced by the Rank Organisation in the 1960s – in glorious Technicolor and with fantastic Mr Cholmondley-Warner narration that is very much ‘of its time’ – which are shown on Talking Pictures TV

I’m slightly addicted and have it on series-link to record them.

Anyway, caught one the other day which was all about the normalisation of executives flying to meetings. It features some great footage, including an early Executive Club lounge from the BEA days.

You will probably need to sign up to see it, but you can watch online at:

I share your fondness for this series and lots are available on youtube too, including the “all in a day’s work” film you shared.

I bet the people who snapped up the business class flight from MXP to BKK or HKT for about £600 a couple of days ago, will be loving the avios 🙂

    • a9504477 says:

these flights weren’t bookable (or rather booked into economy)

      • filipino_chino says:

damn… I wonder if the deal from MXP to NBO is bookable as this was with another airline (about 500euro)

        • Throwawayname says:

There are some really juicy offers about this week, including some aggressive Etihad fares from CAI.

  • Bervios says:

This is a bonus for those flying BKK-LGW on BA – The Oman air Lounge has better quality food and drink offerings than the contracted lounge which whilst looks nice is rather poor. The Oman lounge is small
and compact but has free pour champers and better food. Staff will generally give you a personal tour upon arrival and there are also showers. I’m sure the Qatar lounge is better however it’s not open (or wasn’t in W24-25) for the BA flight.

  • SomersetFlyerr says:

Just to say went out BRS last week. Even with a Priority Pass (I.e free) the Lounge was not worth it. Found a quiet cafe at the periphery which wasn’t serving booze at 07.30 and waited for the very easy KLM to AMS

    • Rob says:

The new lounge is totally new though – new location, all new furnishings etc.

  • Jeremy bruce says:

Serious issue is Oman Air have no arrivals lounge at Muscat. So if you fly business or business studio into Muscat overnight – you will not be able to have a shower etc before meetings !
