I think for that budget you’ll need to head up to Marble Arch and stay somewhere a bit less salubrious. Tripadvisor will be as good an indication as any. Also, do see if you can get lucky with “top secret” hotel type bookings. I’ve used Lastminute for these in the past with success but they are far from being the most honourable booking channel. I wanted to stay “near” Park Lane where my buddy js this week and in the end I just gave up and used my IHG Ambassador free night voucher and am staying at the Kimpton Fitzroy. I want to pop into the City also so it has the advantage of being equally inconvenient for both destinations.

Ironically my buddy gets a £200 a night corporate rate at the Hilton Park Lane (I’m guessing this is pre VAT so let’s say £240). He could not obtain this for me as goes through his large US bank’s central booking system. I imagine this does partly explain why many of the rates are quite so horrendous. A lot of the rooms will be taken up on such deals and therefore the hotels are only wanting mega bucks for marginal revenue over and above this given staffing constraints.

Meanwhile my buddy gets lounge access courtesy of his US-credit-card-obtained diamond status and has had excellent success with upgrades also.

Sad face.
