Forums Other Destination advice A day in Heathrow

  • 252 posts

At the start of April we land in LHR T5 at midday (UK domestic) and we’ve got a flight departing T4 at 2135 later on the same day.

    We are UK passport holders.

It’s separate tickets and we are probably going to have hand baggage only.

We’ve got lounge access but I guess that will only be permitted for 3 hours.

I presume if hbo we can transfer airside. But we obviously have the option to go land side as well since they’re separate tickets.

Does anyone have any recommendations of something to do for approx 6 hours – either airside or landside?

The group includes two kids (9 and 7).

Pop off to Legoland! 20 minutes or so in a cab. Just don’t tell the kids until you’ve landed, in case there is a delay.

Book a room at the Premier Inn t4 , have a cheap lunch ( kids eat free ) and let the nippers watch telly for 4 or 5 hours. Chill out bottle of wine in the room, shower about 6pm, check out and wander over the bridge into the terminal and into the lounge. Prices from £49

Legoland closes at 1800. Make sure you have enough time to make the admission fee worthwhile.

There’s a lot of other things to do in Windsor, including the castle: https://www.windsor.gov.uk/visitor-information

If you’ve bothered to get out of the airport then I’d go for a curry before re-entering, and swerve the lounge food. There are loads of great options near Heathrow.

Remember, you need to be back inside the T5 security queue before conformance cut-off time. I don’t know what that is for domestic flights these days, check when you are leaving the airport.

Thanks for the suggestions. We went to Legoland recently.

So we decided to buy HEX tickets for the four of us which were £14.60 with a Railcard and there will be a further 10% off from Amex offers. We will focus our thoughts on something to do near Paddington or central London
