Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Advice on booking rewards

  • 99 posts

    I believe in order to grab First I need to call at midnight or try to do it online.

    These are tickets to the USA.

    With a companion voucher I can book it as one way.

    For the return I repeat the process but guess I need enough Avios to pay for the return in full, then claim it back?

    Questions;

    Where should I phone if you feel that first to say Miami is hard.

    How do I get the two rewards linked?

    How can I get half the Avios back for the second or will that happen automatically with question 2

    If I didn’t have enough Avios to pay both seats in full for the return is this even possible or could a phone agent book, merge and only charge half?

    @Ian – First isn’t usually / necessarily released at T-355 as the other classes are, nor is there any guarantee that any seats will be released on any given flight.

    As per @JDB, there’s no guarantee of F seats. You could subscribe to SeatSpy which would give you an idea of when are where you’re likely to find them.

    You don’t see many to MIA, but another option would be to book F to one of the cities where you do see them fairly often – e.g. JFK, EWR, BOS and then get a connecting flight.

    Rob has done a great series of articles on here about getting the best from the 241, including information about booking return legs. There’s also a long-running thread with lots of readers’ tips.

    Also be mindful that booking mixed cabins can cause complications with the surcharges.

    The bookings won’t be merged so you’ll still have two separate ones.

    BA will make a manual adjustment to the number of avios when you call to book the second leg. This isn’t an automatic process.
