Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Advice please: Reward with companion voucher and stopover

Please could I have some advice about booking reward seats, using a companion voucher between London and Sydney, with a stopover in Singapore?

Because flights on this route are so sort after, I believe one has to book each individual flight as soon as they become available (355 days in advance).

I have already booked our one-way flight from London to Sydney using Avios and a companion voucher. When flights become available from Sydney to Singapore, I intend to book online using 100% Avios and similarly the remaining flight from Singapore to London when that becomes available. Will I then be able to phone BA and ask them to amalgamate the 3 bookings into one, using the same companion voucher, and get some Avios refunded?

Also, does anyone know if there’s a maximum stopover duration in this scenario?

Any advice will be gratefully received.

    Thanks

@chammond – you will probably need to get this put on one booking, adding each flight as it becomes available.

Note that by stopping over in Singapore, the journey will be slightly more expensive in Avios and cash than the through flight Sydney to London. There’s no limit on the stopover time in Singapore save that the last flight must be within twelve months of the first flight owing to the ticket validity.

@chammond – I have done what you’re aiming to do for a trip starting in a week’s time. I kept monitoring the flights both SYD-SIN and SIN-LHR and whilst checking found that SYD-SIN had a few days where there was availability but the onward flight to LHR sold out immediately at midnight T-355 (I watched them disappear in real time). You do need an unused 2-4-1 to be able to do what I did though as it shows the extra availability.

I rang the Australian office just before midnight on the day I needed to book the full return and told the chap what I was doing so he grabbed the SIN-LHR flights first in case they disappeared and then completed the booking. You could do it in two phone calls as suggested but it means playing the midnight roulette game twice.

    Thanks for the advice
