Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Amex companion voucher question

  • 25 posts

Is the companion voucher for a return trip or just one way? If return does it have to be to and from the same airport?

Looking to use on a trip that flies London > Hong Kong and then return Singapore > London.

Can I also use redeem the voucher after reward purchase with points has been made? I don’t have the voucher yet but will in a couple of weeks. So pay full reward points to secure the flight now. Then when voucher is issued use for 241 to claim the points back?

Any other hints and tips appreciated on how to make this happen? Looking this is for Jan/Feb 2026 🙂

Hi read this helpful article for all the ibfo you need

    https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/01/03/how-do-british-airways-american-express-2-4-1-vouchers-work-2/

That said in answer to your questions
1 can be used either for a one way trip or for a return
2 You can use it for valid open jaw routes ie works for your proposed flights to HKG and back from SIn provided HKG-SIN distance is shorter than either of the flight distanced
3 No you cannot apply a 2-4-1 to an existing booking except when booking the inbound flight when it was not available to book at tge same time as the outbound.ie 355 days out

    Hope this helps

If your trip is 2 years away you need to make sure you don’t trigger the voucher too soon.

If you meant 2025, you need to read up on strategies before the seats are released as they go very quickly to these destinations.

There’s a thread on booking the return leg with the 241 which is full of useful info.

As a start, you might want to read the official Ts&Cs – https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/executive-club/offers/terms-and-conditions/amex-companion

You haven’t specified the type of card you have – which defines the type of voucher and its validity period. But potentially the most important consideration (as mentioned above) is timing – as outbound travel has to be before the expiry date of the voucher. So, even if you had a 2-year validity on a Premium Plus voucher, you would not want to redeem it too soon, for it still to be valid in Feb 26. You might want to stop spending on the card to prevent you triggering the voucher too soon – but do make sure you receive it by the time you want to book.

The basic voucher has a 1-year validity which is probably irrelevant for travel in 2026 irrespective of when you trigger it.
