Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Gold metal card UK check

So it’s been about a year since the metal gold card started launching in Europe.

Does anyone have any insights into what’s happening in the UK with this regards?

Last article I found about it was:

The METAL Amex Gold credit card launches in Europe – coming to the UK soon?

You don’t feel special enough with plastic?

To be honest the card design is a bit outdated anyway. Take the Chase (UK) debit card for example. The card information is at the back and the numbers are not “embossed” on the front – a practice that is useful only for older credit card imprinters that were introduced in 1959 and rarely used nowadays (when did you see one last?)
Cards like Chase UK, Starling, Curve, Monzo can snuggle together easily as they don’t have this ’embossed’ design, so yes, there are several reasons the amex gold plastic card makes you feel old…

Given the plastic card has recently been updated with the new branding, I think we can presume metal Gold cards are not imminent in the UK.

Of course Amex are capable of issuing a nice flat card in plastic (see the also recently refreshed BA cards) but obviously just are not going to do so for Gold for whatever reason.

Monzo isn’t a flat card, incidentally. It’s fast becoming something of an outlier among debit cards in that way now LBG are in the process of changing to a flat design.

Actually didn’t think they were printed (embossed or otherwise) anywhere on the card. I thought you need to open up the app to get all the card info?

    I with your point though.

You are right. WillPS probably misremembered. You will only find the card number etc. in the Chase app – it’s not on the back of the card.

    Great – thanks for confirming.
I think this is an ingenious design. I wish others would adopt it too.

Yes sorry, I actually forgot, but I had a look at my Chase card, and it is actually the best design, no card information whatsoever – a bit like the Apple Credit card in the US 🙂

    Didn’t say anything about Chase?
