Forums Payment cards American Express Amex Marriott – SUB Not Eligible

  • 315 posts

Player 2 recently applied (May-24) for the Marriott Amex during the 60k SUB offer. I have now just been informed by Amex that Player 2 wasn’t eligible for the SUB because they held a BAPP until Jun-23.

My understanding was that the BA Cards didn’t block SUBs for other Amex cards and vice-versa. Have I misunderstood that?

[EDIT] – Additionally, the agent is suggesting that Player’s 2 supplementary card on my BAPP (cancelled in Feb-24) also reset the clock on the 24 month eligibility period.

    I’m quite confused.

    TIA

Your understanding is incorrect having held ANY personal Amex in the past 24 months would mean P2 was ineligible for the sub on the Marriott card (or and other personal card except the Platinum and BAPP card) until Jun-25.

The agent is incorrect about supplementary cards having an impact.

P2 would still be eligible for a Platinum or BAPP welcome bonus in June 25 even after this mistake.

You WOULD be blocked from the BAPP welcome bonus if you held the free BA card in the past 24m and you would be blocked from the Platinum bonus if you held any MR earning card.

I think it’s worth reading this again very carefully https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/01/01/what-amex-sign-up-bonuses-are-you-still-eligible-for-3/

Ah okay, so holding the Marriott doesn’t block the BAPP/Plat but holding the BAPP does block the Marriott. I thought it was a two-way thing. Should pay more attention next time. I’m off to chastise myself, that’s a schoolboy error!

    Thanks for clarifying.

Yup holding the BAPP until Jun-23 blocks every card except for the Platinum until Jun-25
