And I think for this it’s capped at 1 point per £1, not the usual higher rate for higher tiers.
I just called for everyone. They don’t sell anything other than packages.
@roger A&K don’t have online booking facility though the offer alludes to online bookings. I presume they send a payment link.
@executiveclubber what was the experience of booking accommodation only? Not heard back yet, will follow up tomorrow as I’m convinced there’s a way to get outsized value here. We shall see!
The chat has just advised you can book your own flights and use separate cards, I would suggest you could get away with their transfer, hotel and maybe one of tour?
You’re right. I have misread. Tells I don’t often shop there. I have an odd 1200+ points sitting in my account that I never used.
Worth spending in the deli.
New bapp offers –
Which? Spend £50 get 5,000 avios. Would stack with other cashback sites to provide cheap Avios even if which subscription not desired.
Wine flyer £125 spend get 4,000 Avios. Quite tempted to combine this with the current refer a friend offer, could easily get 9,000 Avios for a £125 spend into the household account.
The Berry Bros. & Rudd replacement for the Clos19 quarterly credit is now in Centurion offers, presumably it’ll stack with the 50 back on 275 spend offer.

I got spend £100 get 3000 and I can’t use it yet again as I won’t be here to take delivery 🙁
I asked Abercrombie & **nt to price up flights & a hotel, and was asked “is this in relation to an Amex offer?”. They’re clearly not used to getting many requests. Not surprising given how awful their website is!
Asked for specific flights and a Four Seasons hotel, they said, 5 nights minimum and must include flights and accommodation, and I said that’s fine. Then it became flights, accommodation and sightseeing. Then they said to wait 48 hours while it processes as they “tailor make all itineraries” (aka rip you off to the highest possible degree).
Then they pull their final card… “There is a minimum deposit per booking of £1500, which must be 15% of the value of your booking. Therefore the minimum spend is £10,500”
It was too good to be true after all!
Do they not mean at least 15% of the booking? Surely they wouldn’t mind if you paid 50% or even 100% up front?

Ouch – was that minimum spend requirement included anywhere in the Amex Ts and Cs?
They advertise breaks from 4 nights to Barcelona for £2000 pp so how can the minimum holiday be £10,500
@executiveclubber – did you really believe A&K / Amex were going to refund you two thirds of the cost of your trip? They are proper people not eejuts waiting to be ripped off.
You may have found the website awful, but it’s a brilliant planning resource. We did book a trip with them to Nepal a long time ago as we didn’t think we knew enough and I have to say they were totally brilliant from planning with someone with on the ground knowledge to execution. Wasn’t cheap but still great value.
We do most trips DIY but sometimes professionals can organise things so much better. I came to this conclusion when planning a trip to Serbia earlier this year and the outcome was vastly superior to what I could have organised.
So, what you refer to as “rip you off to the highest possible degree” may just be the price of a fully tailored trip organised to the highest standards. They are entitled to make a profit for the value they add.

None of which is mentioned in the Amex T&Cs. The offer is spend £1500 or more, get £1000 back.
Their own T&Cs state a minimum of 15% deposit, but no minimum cash amount or booking value. Sounds like they’ve figured out that they’ve dropped a bollock with a generous offer and are not trying to worm out of it.
@JDB, they were trying to charge me double the public rate per night for the hotel alone but perhaps you can’t hear me from the size of your high horse! 🙂
I enquired about a villa booking with A&K yesterday and have now been told the Amex offer would not be redeemable against villas as their T&C’s state:
The Terms & conditions are as follows:
Valid for Abercrombie & Kent and Crystal Cruises bookings made directly through the UK or via AMEX TLS UK. Minimum deposit payment £1,500. Valid on inclusive packages only, minimum 5 nights. Offer excludes A&K Villas. Not valid for hotel only or flight only bookings. Deposit and final balance must be paid by the same card holder.
I’ve queried this as it’s not mentioned on the Amex offer T&Cs I can see. If the villa is fully refundable I might take a punt to see if the credit appears.
Sounds like Abercrombie & Kent needs to go back to Amex to get this offer fixed and relaunched.
@smitrax – do you mind posting the link for the A&K Ts and Cs you just mentioned?Definitely appears A&K and/or Amex have cocked up on this one. Either that or A&K are taking the piss with what they’re advertising on their website with illustrative price per person offerings. (I don’t have the offer on my card, so no skin in this one)

When I used to work for a tour operator, we’d routinely price up the same exact itineraries for 1/3, max 1/2 of what A&K were charging. We’d even use the same DMCs on the ground. Their mark-ups are insane.

Not too different compared to my Trailfinders store visit experience about a decade ago, thinking I will save £100 on £1000+ Spend on Amex, with multiple cards to use! IT still felt rip-off and ended up doing NZ trip as DIY and it all went well in the end for us!
Sounds like Abercrombie & Kent needs to go back to Amex to get this offer fixed and relaunched.
@smitrax – do you mind posting the link for the A&K Ts and Cs you just mentioned?I don’t have a link. It was just typed out in an email sent to me from one of their travel consultants. I’ve asked where she got it from and am waiting for a response.
I think the mistake was telling them it’s for the Amex offer. They wouldn’t have known. They got greedy once they realised this might bring them new business so created their own terms within terms.

I see.
Well, keep us posted! 🙂
None of these terms are enforceable for the Amex offer it either costs over £1500 or it doesn’t.

I didn’t tell them, they asked me in their first message – which struck me as amateur from a tour operator wanting me to spend 15k!
