Forums Payment cards American Express Amex / PayPal cashback offer

Thanks @Mark2, very helpful. I was planning to buy multiple e-giftcards to combine to purchase an ipad as an Xmas gift. I’ll need to go back to the drawing board now, all offers are the £70 x3 variant.

Is there a list of retailers that are / are not allowed? I made a payment (>£100) with Crew on their website and paid using paypal, AMEX are refusing the credit saying it doesn’t meet the terms of the offer but won’t explain why. They originally said it was because I paid using an app (which isn’t true) and kept mentioning that three other transactions I made earlier in the month (but individually and cumulatively less than £100) were valid but not high enough. It makes no sense as the other three transactions for smaller amounts were made in the exact same way as the one over £100. I don’t want to waste my time over £20 but I feel they’re taking the mick here!

I agree it makes no sense the way Amex are handling this offer. Surely the merchant in this offer is Paypal? It shouldn’t matter which retailer is using Paypal checkout.

I think the only way to be fairly sure of getting the credit is to look back over all the posts and make a note of all the successful purchases so far.

My purchase on Ticketmaster via Paypal – the £20 credit was from “Ticketmaster” and not PayPal…

The payment shows up as PayPal *merchant name and in the transaction details it shows PayPal and paypals website.

I was told a similar thing. I have the spend £300, get £60 back on the Business Gold card. Spent £795 at GoPro (paid with PayPal of course) but no credit and it’s been nearly 6 weeks now. On chat, they said it wasn’t an eligible retailer – which I said was nonsense because there is no mention of that in the offer terms – but she still didn’t budge. I called up Amex – and they referred the matter to another team to look at. Still not heard anything back though. The offers on my other Amex cards worked fine on spend with eBay, PayPal Gifts, Royal Mail and Manchester Airport Parking.

Simply raise complaints, otherwise you will not get noticed. Happened to me with other offers in the past and I had positive outcomes on all occasions (+some gestures of goodwill for the lost time due to their incompetence)

Today I contacted Amex about a missing credit with WishCard, I was told that the transaction wasn’t elegible because the merchant isn’t active?? I said that it doesn’t make any sense, since if the merchant wasn’t active how could I have made the transaction?! The agent sent that he filled a case and another team will investigate it…
I really don’t understand this level of incompetence and having to waste so much time for £15… but it is a matter of principles!

I’ve phoned Amex to complain about the disparity between the £100/£20 and £70/£15 offers re. cumulative spend.
Surely they have a moral duty to apply the same rules to both offers if their wording is identical, as Rob has confirmed?

    Latest on this mate?

So far spent £65 using PayPal, let’s see if I can actually hit £100 and get that £20 credit.

Perhaps just do a proper £70 PayPal transaction in the next couple of months? So many online retailers accept PayPal, it really is a doddle to trigger this offer without messing about with gift cards etc.

I just used Wishcard because I needed to buy something in Amazon and it was the only way to get some discount. I have the offer in so many cards that I’m not sure I will be able to maximise without my buying more GC… however until Amex solves this transaction I’m not using Wishcard anymore

Odd that the £100 offer is cumulative spend however the £70 isn’t

As I said in another post, this may be because the £70 offer pays out three times and the IT is tricky to do if its cumulative. Would a £140 transaction trigger 2 payments for example?

Ah yes, makes sense. I only have the £100 offer (x8), so along as that seamlessly remains cumulative I’m happy.

2 F&F valid payments made on Friday 28 August on different cards. Used offer email received instantly.
    Finalised Saturday 29 August.
£20 credit received Sunday 30 August.

Nothing from Wishcard transaction on 02 August or 2 F&F on 04 August (used offer emails received).

    All 20/100 offers.

I’ve seen others mention this and not sure if there has been an answer I’ve missed:

I got the “Spend £100, get £20 back, one time” on one card and made use of it in one transaction, credit successfully received.

It is however still showing in my active offers list, not the used offers. First time I have ever had that, makes me wonder if I might be lucky enough to get to use it again. Has anyone got any experience? Sadly I have no normal 3 figure spends that I can use Paypal for, to try it out on. I would only likely buy something if there was at least a chance of receiving it.

    The answer is: NO.

Did you receive the email for Wishcard?

    @Mark2
Had no emails on wishcard x 3. No credits either. All on 70/15 offers. Re spend x 1 on FandF, triggered the credit same day. So will just re do the other two on f and f also. Gift cards were useful tho, but too unpredictable to waste time on.

No email from the Wishcard. Emails received, but no credits, from the 04 August F&F.

2 F&F from 04 August credited today, 31 August. The only transaction not credited is Wishcard.

    Update.

2/8/22 Made a wishcard purchase online for £100 to trigger my £20 off £100 offer.
No email or credit received after a few weeks, so rang up on 17/8.
Was given various excuses and then told that he could see no reason for it not triggering, told me to call back if it hadn’t shown up by 2/9.

Called back just now and spent 29 minutes on to someone from outside of the UK.
He went through numerous excuses including, merchant excluded, merchant not live and trading etc etc.
I told him that if the merchant wasn’t trading I’d like the £100 spend refunding.
After another period on hold, was told that a “ticket” had been raised and I should hear back “shortly”.
Asked that given the situation I required a specific definition of “shortly“, he said within a week.

I asked for the ticket number and said I would call back in seven days if I hadn’t seen the £20.

I’ll monitor and report outcome, but it appears that until you get a “ticket“ raised nothing will happen!

I wonder whether the problem with Wishcard is that it’s German.
I ideally I would like it fixed as I can do the £70 purchase another 14 times and Wishcard gives a wider choice of gift cards and is direct rather than via Sainsbury’s with Access All.
