Forums Payment cards American Express Amex protection against insolvency

This is not points related but I’m sure some of you will have had experience to advise please. In 2022 I had an offer on my gold charge card for a certain Mayfair establishment. I wanted to redeem the Amex offer but it was not a convenient time to use their services, so the business applied credit to my account instead.

That credit went unredeemed, and I was notified last month they are in liquidation. I joined the creditors meeting today and was told there are not expected to be any funds to repay any creditors, so we should look for credit card recompensation.

What is my best approach to get Amex to repay me, or is this hopeless?

What amount are we talking about?

As a charge card, you do not have S75 coverage. However you can still put a complaint in to Amex explaining you have not received the goods/services charged to the chard. They have their own chargeback process (but this must be initiated with XX days of knowing about the issue – so you must be quick!). Separately Amex occasionally seem to say they voluntarily will meet the S75 protections for charge cards. It may well be worth asking if they will cover this cost (as a separate to the chargeback process).
