So I was in Nice this weekend. On the outbound flight (ex LGW), there were maybe 3 or 4 PAs made with regard to not filming the crew, yet on the return (into LHR) nothing similar was said.
Now don’t get me wrong – the whole “influencer” videoing every last sparrow’s fart really gets my goat, but the terminology used on the outbound flight just felt utterly made up, including at one point an announcement which was “filming the crew is permissible” when I think they actually meant to say prohibited.
Anyway, just seemed so left field as to be worthy of note. To the best of my knowledge, no one was openly filming although it was an A321 so who knows what was going on many rows away…
There was a similar announcement on our VS flight from MCO in January – I don’t if that’s standard or it was just because Kevin Webster from Corrie was in UC 😂.
I can’t think I’ll be tempted to do any filming en route to GIB this week, even though I managed to bag 1A and 1C late last night!
I wonder what that’s all about. SWISS prohibits filming of the crew at all times – not sure which other airlines take such a stance.
Filming other passengers and crew members should not be allowed. Some of the YouTube videos you see do invade the privacy of other passengers.
Agree I have no desire to film or be filmed but I imagine it would be very difficult to enforce – plus it might be that airlines actually want (positive), free publicity so don’t mind the influencers generally!

It’s not always positive of course!
That’s when they decide they have a no-filming policy!

KLM have made announcements prohibiting filming or photographing crew & passengers on my last couple of flights with them.
However, if there were to be a serious incident, any video footage would be invaluable to a subsequent investigation, as long as it was safe to film such footage of course.
But there’s a huge difference between a video clip being used as evidence in an official investigation and some random vlogger deciding that they didn’t like the way the crew member demonstrated the life vest inflation process so plastering it all over social media in a sensational rant.
The sensible thing would be for vloggers to stop vlogging in public – and people to stop streaming the resulting tripe on their phone speakers. But let’s face it – that ain’t going to happen any time soon….
Yes of course – I just meant that policies can and should be suspended if there’s a greater good!
Whilst the privacy of cabin crew and passengers should be respected, correct me if I’m wrong but it’s still a public place on board a passenger service aircraft therefore people should be able to film what they like as if they were in public on a street
An aircraft is not a public space. It is a private space, and the operator of the aircraft is entitled to make their own rules about how you must behave on their premises, in the same way that a pub or restaurant or other private place can make rules about acceptable conduct.
The appropriate national law obviously applies in addition to any rules that the airline adopts.

This reminds me of people getting upset on internet forums when their comments get moderated “you’re interfering with my freedom of speech!”
KLM started this after COVID.
Previously it wasn’t an issue and they welcomed it, in all honestly I think it’s due to the increase in Flight Vloggers post-pandemic, highlighting how disgusting the customer service is after 3 years of paid time off for the crew.
I think the penny dropped that people were making a living from enjoying the highlife in Business Class whilst giving honest reviews of the poor service provided by so many Airlines and it’s their way of lashing out.
Noel Phillips and Paul Lucas seem to manage to work around the whole nonsense and provide some great content.
