I am trying very hard to see why one should remain with BA other than those traveling a lot for their employer.
In addition to being easier to achieve, status with IB+ differs a lot from BA!
– IB+ Silver member (BA ruby) can add an extra luggage for free to IB flights (even when flying HBO). If you have BA Ruby or another OWR IB does NOT allow you that
– IB+ Gold members and above can guest people on security fast track. BA Silver and other OWS/OWE can NOT
Feels like IB+ gives you a lot of extra perks if you fly a lot to Spain or with Iberia that BA does not provides. What’s crazy is that BA Gold does not offer much that makes it so different from simply having OWE with other loyalty programs.
This is not so much a criticism of BA but instead me noticing IB seems to treat his frequent flyers much better than it does those from other airlines with the same level.
The Iberia customer services are really awful IMO, and if you try to redeeem avios on IB, there are no refunds at all allowed. They also seem to be really slow at updating accounts/crediting the right number of miles to accounts.
But I do agree, their requirements to get to OW Sapphire are comparatively low and cheap, reflecting the reduced spending power of the Spanish consumer market. A couple of weekends in Spain, flying on a cheap IB metal across the country (and to the islands) would be a fun way to rack up the segments for low prices.
IB+ does not allow refund if you use the IB website and book a flight that IS NOT with IB.
Refunds are allowed on IB metal flights.
You can always move your Avios to BA and book as usual there. So choosing IB+ does not mean you lose BA Avios rewards or using your 241 voucher.

+1 Their customer service and support is woeful in my experience, especially when it comes to posting points. Perhaps things are different for customers with IB+ Silver/Gold status.
