Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Applied a week ago but no reply yet?

  • 1,832 posts

Currently on hold as they try to connect my main Barclays Premier account to my Barclaycard Avios Plus. 30 mins in and she still hasn’t found my Barclaycard account ‘Oh all our cards usually start with 4929, so we can’t find your account’. So that’s reassuring (my card starts 5301).

Oh I forgot about this one.
On three phone calls, they’ve been unable to find me using the card number.
Agents scratching their heads as to why I can be located using personal info but not the card number. As if the card doesn’t exist.

That doesn’t sound right re payments. On my HH Barclaycard I can make payments via the app whenever I want, as long as there’s an outstanding balance. Can’t see why this new card would be different.

I thought the same! I get an error when trying to pay via the app (sorry, something’s gone wrong), so questioned it and she said it was because my statement hadn’t been issued yet. I didn’t believe her, so hoping that changes.

Applied 3rd March – Card and PIN all arrived, activated, working add added to app. 12 days in total to wait.

    Exemplary service from Barclays.

Not sure phoning up to cancel when the card was slightly slow to arrive was really a necessary move.

It’s not just the fact that the card arrived late. Here’s a list of issues that people are reporting:
    – Card cannot be added to PayPal, Curve, eBay and many other online services (possibly due to an issue involving 3DS card verification/security)
    – Some people have reported getting some regular in-store transactions declined even after activating card
    – Apple Subscription offer does not work – links in the email do not work
    – People have had issues adding the card to Barclays’ own app
    – Statements have been produced already demanding payment for the first ‘month’ of largely being unable to use the card

    Is that really ‘exemplary service’?

But some of these issues are people trying to add cards, Apple subscriptions etc before the card has even arrived! Or using the card number of a card they have chosen to phone up and cancel before it even arrived !
Or the card failing on first use because as we know, you should use your PIN, not contactless on its first outing….
Also, as we know, changes to 3DS security this week has affected multiple cards and websites.
Lastly, not sure what “month” people have been demanded payment for if its only just 2 weeks since the thing was launched !

A little patience and common sense would have fixed almost all these issues.

2 hours on the the phone just seems totally OTT…..

I’m on day 16 and no card, Stan, so how long would you have advised me to wait?

When Barclays says the Card was sent on 1st March and it has not arrived by the 15th March, at what point would be the right time to say “maybe it’s lost”? For the record Barclays cancelled it as soon as i questioned when it was sent as not arrived, i didn’t get a choice on whether to have it cancelled.

If it’s not meant to work until the card has arrived then they should make that clear in their emails (which say nothing of the sort). I’m not actually clear that anyone has been able to active Apple services yet. The way the agents can’t find customers by card numbers implies some sort of IT disconnect internally…

For clarity the email subject line was “Action – activate your free Apple subscriptions” and then opened with “Hello ediflyer. You can now activate one or all of your four Apple subscriptions”.

My card arrived yesterday. I applied on day one but didn’t receive any acceptance or confirmation of my application until the emails/texts that others have reported on started to come in.

I’ve successfully used it in supermarkets, though only by entering my pin rather than contactless, but it doesn’t work online. I attempted payments with two different online retailers yesterday and the card was declined, though strangely the attempted transactions appear as temporary holds for £0.01p on my statement. It must be a problem with the Barclaycard rather than the retailers as I used my white IHG Creation card instead with no problems.

As with others on this thread, I do not have the option to pay off my balance before the statement date. The options to do so are greyed out on the app.

To give some credit where it is due, they waived the £20 monthly fee on my request and this was updated on my statement updated within 24 hours. If only everything else had been as efficient.

I was/am very enthusiastic about this card, not least as I am attempting a 24 month AMEX Break and am not fortunate enough to have one of the old Hilton cards. I really hope they can sort these problems out quickly.

So you waited 2 weeks from application to call them, with not even a PIN arriving in that time??? That seems reasonable.

People on this forum seemed to be calling to query after 5 days, that to me is totally OTT.

Seems to work behind Curve on sites where the Avios card itself is being declined due to whatever verification issues.

You didnt think it conceivable an automated welcome email might arrive out of sequence to your card being activated??

Even after reading about and experiencing all the mishaps on this very forum ?

Day 1 signup and still no card to show for it, but I too now have a £20 bill on a first statement.

It amuses me to think that some of us thought that Amex would be worried by this new product. Based on this quality of service, they needn’t be.

But i have done – people have been phoning to moan after waiting about 5 days for a card. Dont tell me you think that is reasonable?

Anyone had any advancements on registering for Apple TV+ etc subscriptions?

    505 posts

Beware: even if the subscriptions for Apple products worked, they are free for a few months only, then you’ll be charged automatically.
As if that was not enough, the duration for free subscriptions change for different products. Longer for TV+, shorter for Music.

    Very cheeky indeed

Not trolling: I also don’t think that calling 5 days after application is reasonable. I wish I had mail every 5 days nowadays…

Of course the card I presume is the original one has just arrived – complete with shredded envelope! What have they been doing to them?! It looks and feels rather unprofessional, like somebody made a fake version of my FD debit card and changed the printing.

I’ve experienced this now as well. They can’t locate my account by card number. To get me through security, I have been asked to provide some rather unusual information, such as the people I live with so that they can match the details to the electoral roll!!

Card finally arrived today, two weeks since applying and after a hurry up phone-call. But not compatible with Apple pay nor Curve it seems, already billed for month 1 which include one week when I did have the card, cannot register for the App due to over the top ID verification process which does not recognise me (take a lesson from Amex please!), and chat not working. All in all a very disappointing start 😡.
