Hi I’m looking at booking a last min trip to AMS flights are fairly pricey so was thinking of combining a hotel as seems to be better value. I’m flying from London but my mum is going to join me flying direct from Ireland – if I book
The trip as one person which includes the hotel will she be able to join me? There doesn’t seem to be an option to select two for the hotel but one for the flight? Rooms showing to be a double
Any drawbacks to doing this? Or have I missed something? Breakfast doesn’t appear to be included which would be an obvious cost difference for 1 or 2 people which is fine there are plenty of great places to eat out in Ams

Nobody will know if there’s a second person in your room if you sneak her in 🙂

But seriously if you want to do it by the book, just check in 2 people, the hotel may charge you additional 2nd person charge. and then if applicable pay tourist tax for both on departure (I don’t think there is one for the Netherlands but a lot of countries/cities level one). BA won’t care or know any difference.

There is a specific €3 per person per night tourist tax in Amsterdam and the hotel will charge you that.

Also expect to pay that tax for yourself as it’s often not included in the BA holidays costs. Same with the 7% tax.

In my experience it’s almost always payable in cash locally. Got chased down the street at 5am in the snow by the reception guy in prague because he’d forgotten to ask me for it so had to walk all the way back and pay.

AMS is news to me, I’ve just seen that it began in 2020. iI’ve not been since 2018.

I often book a BA holiday package for one of us, and then the other flies on the 241 with the teenager. Just make sure when you pick your hotel room it will fit in the number of people you need. When you get to that stage of the booking you’re asked to select your room type and you’ll get all the options so you can go for twin or 2 doubles if that’s better for you. Never had an issue when more than the named person checked in.
