Hi, complete newbie here to this.
I am considering getting the above card. I would get an additional card for my wife for her everyday spending. We reckon we could easily hit the new 15k target with every day spending.
Am I right in thinking if I sign up just now I’d have until 31st October 24 to spend the 10k and get a companion voucher at the 10k spend threshold?
How does booking flights work with companion vouchers and avios for a family of four?
Say I signed up by 1st August then spent £10k by 31-10-24. Do I then need to wait until 1-8-24 to start accumulating points for another companion voucher or can I just get stuck right into getting the next one? Then if I had 2 companion vouchers can you book say my wife and I on 1 voucher and then the 2 kids on another voucher? Or would I need to use a combination of companion, avios and cash?
How hard are companion/reward/points flights (whatever they are described as) to come by during school holidays? Are they easy enough to obtain if you are booking well in advance?
I have read some comments that its pointless doing this if you’re flying in economy?
Is there any value to this for European flights to summer holiday destinations or is it better purely for the long haul trips?
Any other information for a newbie would be much appreciated.
Thanks
You’re asking an awful lot of questions here! For the wider avios queries, you’re best heading over to the articles, e.g. the avios “Redemption University” series for all things related to avios/companion vouchers. Also have a trawl through the BAEC forum for threads which match your questions.
Yes, you’ll get the voucher if you spend £10k by the end of October, then it goes to £15k, from what I understand.
You can only earn one voucher per card year.

Don’t add any supplementary cards with your original application. Do it later (even just a few days) and you’ll get an extra 3K Avios for doing it that way.
Not forgetting that the person who earned the voucher has to be one of the people using the voucher – this would preclude you from using voucher 1 for you and wife and voucher 2 for the children – but, as Northern Lass says, have a look at the Redemption University. There is still value to be obtained
Follow the advice of @northernlass read Rob’s articles properly and then come back to the forum with any left over questions. This will save you a lot of pain in the long run. Avios availability, using and timing the 241, 1am calls, card anniversary timing etc, etc. take a little bit of time now and it will be repaid in spades.
Thanks for the responses.
Is the £300 an upfront fee or lumped on to the card when first opened?
Charged with the first statement, or around that time.
You can actually use 2 of your own vouchers for 4 people, again there are details of how to do this in one of the articles.
This is what I’m trying to find but having difficulty. I’ve called the BA executive number a few times but always too busy.
So you reckon if I accumulate 2 vouchers I could use that as a buy 2 get 2 free sort of scenario?
Why are you calling BAEC, a lot of the agents won’t even know this stuff?! It’s all in the articles on here – have a look at this for starters:
