I think the issue is that is it deemed as a significant change. Some would see it is and some would see it is not. It is very subjective. But the way airlines treat their customers now re-cancellations and changes to departure times etc, some would see these are unacceptable. Maybe as passengers we all should move to be more demanding customers and not accept it as a fait accompli!
UK/EU legislation provides for very generous compensation not usually available in other countries/regions in respect of cancellations, delays and expenses incurred by passengers following disruption. It does not provide compensation or special rights in relation to perceptions/subjective issues re seats or service.
The CAA as the NEB for the UK explicitly says that passengers can’t claim compensation for perceived inferior product within the same class (e.g. one airline’s business class vs another) so to try that on within the same airline won’t get you very far. Any regular traveller will experience aircraft changes and different types of seats and that’s just the way it is. There are simply no guarantees; it barely registers as a first world problem.
The useful advice for the OP is:
1 – Yes, this is an outrageous bait-and-switch
2 – BA do this all the time
3 – They will refuse any compensation and fight very hard if you try to get any
This isn’t like cases where they deny uk261 compensation that is due, and then back down when you show you know your rights and will fight. They’ll invest a lot of effort in making sure you get nothing for Club Suites to Club World downgrades, because their operations require that they are able to switch routes and flights between the two frequently.
Mine for Sunday still club suite , so fingers crossed as of 5 mins ago
Also Sunday last day of first wing security for some time (according to the loyalty lobby)
I have a flight booked to JNB at the beginning of March BA057 and was very much hoping for Club Suite but it is showing as the Club World seats unfortunately although in aircraft it did say that the aircraft is a 787-9 last week but when I looked just now it is not showing the type of aircraft so perhaps it has been changed and I will have an aircraft with Club Suite.
I think that this is unlikely though as it still shows that if I choose a seat , it is the old ying yang style even though the aircraft is now not listed
I’m booked on BA0043 on 3rd March – seat selection page says this is a 77W with a 1-2-1 configuration, rows 5-24 being Club (rows 18 & 24 only having two seats each). I can’t find a corresponding seat map on SeatGuru, any idea where I can find one, and are these Club Suite?
My return flight on BA0044 on 18th March is a 788 with 2-3-2 config with rows 1-3 plus 6 & 7 as Club – can anyone also confirm whether these are Club Suite?
Many thanks!
