Apologies if I’ve missed this but new for me at T5 on Sunday was notifications popping up on my phone that said “Your bag XXXX(individual bag tag number) is now ready for collection from carousel 3”. Within 30s of getting this the bag came out! Bags were already delivered (for about 5 mins already) so it didn’t seem like it was a generic message for that flight. I had 3 bags to collect (had been in Japan for 2 weeks with associated work items too) and I got a notification for each bag at separate times, just before they came out.
I normally do all I can to avoid checking a bad so it’s been a while, but I thought this was at least a step in the right direction. Not as detailed as AA or QR app that gives you a detailed update on where your bad is (checked in, loaded, unloaded etc) but I’ll take it! Anyone else seen this?
Yes. They have been doing this for a good few months now.

Ah OK, thanks. Good to know.
That’s really cool.
Still, only tells you when your baggage has arrived. You can still spend an hour or so wondering if it is at the right airport or not while you wait.
I must admit I am a fan of the Apple AirTags which have allowed me to track luggage as we went around making sure it is following us during stopvovers or when we reach our destination.
You still don’t know when it will finally appear to be picked up but you know it is there at the same destination!

It must be route specific as I got nothing other than another badly damaged bag at the end of September. Over an hour after we came into stand!

Yes, I also had an AirTag in each case so at least knew it was at T5 and that it was unloaded from the plane and then sat near the stand for the next 45 mins. Was A gates as well. Amazes me how slow LHR can be compared to other large airports. I travel through SIN and ICN frequently and baggage is always returned so quickly.

Unloadign bags is down to the airline not the airport.
So, unless there is an issue with the baggage belts (which is a HAL responsibility), bag delays are BAs fault by not employing enough baggage handlers and / or their deployment.
Other LHR airlines don’t appear to have the same issues with the time it takes to get bags off a plane to the carousel that BA has ar T5.
