Hi,
I currently have the free BA card which I haven’t really been using that much and I have decided that I now want to get back into travelling with points again. I should probably mention that I have about 190,000 Avios from when I collected before I retired.
The obvious choices are the Amex Gold Card and the BA paid-for card. I won’t get the sign up bonus for either because of my free BA card. The 1.5 points spend on the Premium BA card and the bonus miles on the Gold card come to the same for a given spend of say, £15,000. Of course I get the Gold card for free the first year but I get the 2-4-1 ticket on the BA premium card but I gave to pay for the card. Also there is the flexibility of the reward points vs Avios (I will only be using points for flying) It’s a bit of a 1st World problem, but what would be a good plan? I have some ideas but I thought I would throw it out to you to see what you thought. Thanks.I’d go for BAPP as provided you reach the 15K spend , you are getting an extra 7.5K Avios, but more important, your Avios balance is effectively worth double with the 2 4 1
If OP doesn’t have a barclaycard I would suggest looking at the paid avios card for the 25k SUB and higher earning rate, and cancelling the amex to reset the 24 month clock. It sounds like they haven’t spent much towards the voucher as yet.

Not sure I agree with this if airline spend makes up a good proportion of that £15K. The Gold card earns 2 points per £1 on all airline spend. The BAPP earns 3 points per £1 on BA spend.
Thanks for the replies, I think I have a way forward.

with the 2.5k bonus per 5k spend the gold give you 22.5k points per 15k which matches the BAPP for non-airline spend. It then depends if your airline spend is with BA or elsewhere to see which works out better if airline spend makes up a good proportion of this spend
