Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club British Airways – multi-carrier reward flights – tax calculation

  • Stephen 56 posts

    Hello,

I’ve booked some British Airways – multi-carrier reward flights (DUB-DOH-CMB-SIN-KUL-BKK-HEL-LHR)

When searching the taxes for each flight it comes to around £400, but British Airways’ tax calculation is £770. They don’t have the breakdown of each segment, so wanted to ask if anyone knew how they calculated it?

    Thanks

Wow, that’s a route! Have you checked that the class of travel is what you expected for each leg? You may find yourself in a higher class on a leg or two, which could explain this.

Thanks, yep, I’ve double-checked the taxes on the partner airlines directly (for cash tickets), as well as the amount British Airways would have charged in taxes/fees if I booked each segment individually.

Is there something else I’m missing?

They should be able to provide the breakdown of the fare, plus detailed taxes and charges. Otherwise they’ve just made it up. Seriously though, it will be in their system down to every last penny as the fare calculation.

Ask them for it. Anything labelled YQ tyoe of charge is carrier’s own surcharge going into their pocket not any government tax and is not an airport or immigration fee etc.either. All of these are clearly identified.

About £200 is govt APD tax of UK government for longhaul flight departing the UK so this does account for a big chunk and rhe rest may well stack up as about right when you see the breakdown.

I’m trying to figure out why they’ve charged me some random YQ on an LHR-Madrid Iberia flight, so I wouldn’t hold out much hope in them calculating the taxes on this correctly personally!

Try logging into Finnair and sending yourself an e-ticket receipt, may give you a breakdown to dig into

    Exactly as suspected. Well done.

An actual fare in there somewhere.
£300+ trousered by BA called YQ
Very small other local charges for airports around the world.
