Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Can I elect to earn BA Avios when flying Qantas?

I’m a newbie so forgive me if this is a very basic question (and if I haven’t found the answer elsewhere in the site – I have looked!).

I am flying with Qantas with the family to Australia later this year. I have booked and added the BA exec numbers for us all. I was looking to download the Qantas app (for boring reasons I have 3 different booking references and it would be easier to have it all in one place). However I need to join QFF in order to use the app and am worried that will mean I will accrue QFF points which are not part of my plan.

My question is whether I can elect to earn BA avios even though I would be a QFF member? I seem to recall you can do this with BA (not that I have needed to).

If anyone knows I would be very grateful for a steer.

So long as the frequent traveller number on your booking is the BA one, that’s where points (avios) accrual will happen. It doesn’t really matter that you opened a QFF or any other oneworld account, as long as it’s not listed as the FQTV account for your booking.

Yes because they’re both members of Oneworld. Just make sure when you book your flights with Qantas that you add your BA Club number.

If you are only concerned about avios, check whether you get more at Iberia or Finnair or even Qatar compared to BA.

In general Qantas flights are best credited to QFF, but of course if you won’t fly them again for many years then it’s not useful.

Wheretocredit will help. As you may even get more in say Qatar then move the Avios into BA.

As with others. Whichever FF number is added when you book is where it will credit to and dictate the ‘currency’ and qualifying point.

The vast majority of us hold multiple FF accounts both within OW and outside of it. You can book an American Airlines itinerary from BCN-LHR-JFK with the 1st sector flown on BA but book all that on Qatars website. It’s all governed by the FF# you add at the time of booking.

There are ways to change this number post booking but I can be long winded/ complex based on your knowledge level and/or changeable in how to. So as you’re a self confessed newbie do your best to just out your BA one in at the time. You can also add significant others and or kiddos as well if applicable.

Most OW sites have a drop down box to select the airline/ FFP then a box to enter the number in ( MAKE SURE YOU GET IT RIGHT. CHECK TWICE!). Others are intelligent enough to work it out from the membership ID then show the scheme below for you to check the site got it right.

If something goes wrong ahead of time then come back here and search “Changing where my flight will credit” or words to that effect ( there’s existing threads on such). As a fail-safe. You can ask the agent at the check-in desk to change it to BA. Your BP will show your FF# and status level on it.

Thanks all. I am unlikely to accrue any more Qantas points anytime soon so that is why I’m keen to make sure the Avios register. I added the BA numbers when booking so all should be ok.
Thanks for the wheretocredit tip – I will have a look.
