Looking to book 2 pax one way EDI – LHR in CE and use the voucher to reduce the required Avios.
Search the route as a plain Avios booking and there is a flight showing 4 CE seats (when the godawful website actually works which is about 1 in every 10 attempts….). All good so far.
Try and “book and upgrade” using the voucher and suddenly there isn’t any availability. That’s not right is it i.e. if there is a full price Avios seat in the higher class I should be able to apply the voucher? It is all coming out of the same availability bucket, no?
Given how buggy the website is, maybe it’s just a glitch and I should call but not keen on paying phone booking fees
Somehow you’ve missed this but it’s been known (and widely discussed) since the upgrade voucher’s inception that you can’t use it to book connecting flights online, you need to call BA!
But it’s not connecting, it;s just a one way domestic. And the next day shows seats on the same route where I can apply the voucher no problem. Odd.
You aren’t Gold are you? I’m wondering if the Barclays voucher won’t be able to access the extra Avios seats made available to Gold card holders.

They’re only in economy though
I’d just call in, in my experience I’ve never had to argue about paying a phone booking fee, they’re well aware the website is rubbish especially with these vouchers (e.g. can’t use 2x etc)

No, lowly Blue. I’ll call them. Thanks all.
Apologies, @Evil, I saw EDI and assumed it was connecting to another flight. I’ve just done a dummy booking for a random date in May and I’m getting availability at the 18k avios plus £1 rate, which still feels really high for such a short route!
Are you selecting the voucher from your home page on BAEC, sometimes the IT can be flaky if yo do it any other way. Then if you abandon your search or want to try another date, you have to return to that page to select the voucher again or BA will default to any 241 you have in your account (IME) and really start confusing things!

Does the Barclays voucher get access to additional reward seats if you start with a domestic connection? I know the Amex vouchers do, but they work entirely online.

No additional rewards from a Barclays voucher. Its also my understanding that the Barclays voucher is best used for long haul. 18k is a lot for an hours flight. Booked 50k (and £275 mind you) to Shanghai buts gives you a slight look at distances possible.
