Forums Payment cards American Express Car hire insurance for rental booked with BAPP prior to opening Platinum card

  • 10 posts

    Hi all,

I am new to this forum and finding information here super useful.
I booked a flight+car package for a trip towards end of April on ba.com with my BAPP in February.
I opened a Platinum card this week after seeing the increased SUB.
After reading around on the forum, I understand that the car rental benefits of the Platinum card seems to apply to all bookings made with any Amex card under the same name.
However, since I made the booking before opening the Platinum card (and hence prior to enrolling into the travel insurance), is my car hire still gonna be covered?

    TIA

Was the booking via BA not inclusive of insurance?

The standard CDW is included, but there is a 2K excess and I’m not inclined to buy the expensive ‘super CDW’ from Avis.

@FlyerSam. Cheers, never rented there, I’ll file that away in things to try and remember.

Before my Amex Platinum I used to buy the excess covers (specifically fo Italy as most of the south regions have extremely high excess) from third party insurance brokers. It was always cheaper.
