EU planning to water down rights – will be interesting to see if UK follows suit…

EU261 for short-haul flights will kick in for four hours or more, six hours + for long haul
Compensation increases from €250 to €300, but cut for long-haul from €600 to €500.

In other words the EU fell for the whining of rich lazy airlines.

Short hsul flight protection should kick in at 2 hours, rather than go up to 4. 4 hours basicslly means the airline wastes your whole day between flying and their delay and yet st*ffs you with accommodation costs at your destination after the day the airline messed uo for nothing.

Easyjet tried to pull that on me in Covid. They claimed moving me from a 7am flight to a flight at 9.30pm with a different flight number was a reschedulkng not a canvellation 🙂 ….on a 2-day 1 night trip short haul,.. losing the first day but.still with full costs to arrive at a hotel I did not need to pay for, for nothing achieved as the whole
1 day out of a ttip of onky 2 days, was lost due to airline shenanigans.

At 4 hours delay on shorthaul the airline would have wasted my entire 1 day out of 2, whilst still leaving me with the full costs of what was organized to be a productive 2-day trip. That was literally not going to fly with me and I do hope those voting on letting airlines mess passengers around even more in Europe, are also fliers that know the disprortionate impact of airline irrops onto a short haul trip.

If the EU adds penalties for slow payout or slow handling of claims that will actually increase penalties on airlines when they do this then I might not feel they would have just given in to industry lobbying.

Might get confusing where airline is based too. As whilst UK261 would be clear legislation on leaving UK, wont it depend on where airline is registered for the rights on the return?

What airlines are actually registered to the UK…? Virgin…? Logan Air…? Without even looking it up, is British Airways actually registered (for the purposes of 261) in the UK? Or is it in Spain with IAG?

Anyone else having issues with BA/Iberia IT at the moment?

For weeks or more now! Don’t use the app, sign into the website, seems to work for me!
Booking a redemption flight with Qatar a two days ago was a pleasure not a chore, very slick.

Is IAG an operating air carrier?
Do BA aircraft have registrations beginning with G?

Speaking of BA emails, had one from BA Future Lab enttled “What’s Britishness to you?”

Sounded at first like BA was riding the zeitgeist and the opinion polls!

Good morning from IC Times Square, before I switch to IC Barclay. A total bed factory, and room size and finish is unremarkable. But it is excellently located for Times Square. And they deliver benefits proactively rather than through gritted teeth.

Resort fee has either been waived or was inclusive in my work booking; either way it’s not sitting on the bill for me to pay. 2 bottles of water delivered to the room each evening. Upgrade to a corner room with views both south and west so oodles of sunlight. And breakfast is a coupon for a full American breakfast for two, which is over and above the necessity of the IHG t&cs. Once coupon presented at breakfast, the staff are clear that no bill will be provided. Excellent system.

Thanks! It won’t even let me in at the moment – not BA, not Iberia, laptop nor app. Worse than usual!

I am completely ignorant on the legislation, but know that IAG is not a carrier.

I don’t know anything about aircraft registrations… this is where having a hive mind for these sorts of things, vs being a “general traveller” (who I would class most of my friends and family and work colleagues) will get you in to a bit of a mess in 261 situations!!

Would be interested to see if there is going to be an available list of registered UK airlines in the event the EU changes take place… and better comms from the UK Government on UK261 rights.

Experience suggests EU airlines (e.g. KLM) are much more pro active at telling you your rights in a disruption situation, than any “UK airline”.

had successful viva on Wednesday 😁

Massive congrats! We finally had OH’s (belated) PhD graduation ceremony a couple of weeks ago.
Felt like he’d started it all in another lifetime!

Oh congrats to him too! Yes, tell me about it! I started in October 2020 so feels like forever 😆

Don’t forget to tip for the full value of the breakfast 😉

Very odd, this is my 5th hotel on the trip and I’ve yet to see a tip jar at breakfast.

However tipping a buck a drink and being nice to the bar staff got me a free beer at each of the last two clubs

A concerned American at the next table asked if even though they hadn’t received a bill for breakfast, ought they tip too. For a buffet breakfast! The manager said no, the tip is included in the Diamond breakfast coupon.

@Michael, that’ll be such a relief for you as well! We are a very erudite bunch here 😂

I was once presented with a bill for the value of the tip on a HGI buffet breakfast in America (back when free brekkie was a thing!)

O2 Intercontinental – has it always been that the drinks voucher for Ambassador members isn’t valid at the Skybar?

@Biccy – had a frustrating day today with IAG companies. Couldn’t access my Iberia account. They told me I didn’t have one! After well over an hour and 2 phone calls later they found it. I reset my password and I still can’t get access. As for BA. I’m flying with them this weekend. App all week says under account details “something went wrong” and under recent transactions “were unable to update your recent transactions”. Log in to website. There is no record of the return ticket I booked to South America last week using my 241 and the Avios have not been deducted! Decided to give up for the day.

Good morning from the Hilton Bournemouth. Quite impressed with this hotel on the whole. The beds abit hard for my liking though.
The minute I did chip and pin for the amex, I received an email saying the £75 offer had been triggered. I’ve not seen that before.

The weather was dismal yesterday, but I am trying to embrace this mini break Uk Holiday idea.

Yes, one of our fave easy one-night child-full breaks! Pool is fine, everything close at hand.
Sorry if I mentioned this before, but Lola’s 5 mins. up the road is the best Spanish food this side of Sabor for me.

thanks for that Michael. I”ve put my trust in you and booked it for 9pm. Had a lovely lunch at Kala Thai today also. Highly recommend.
