    Good morning from LHR.

I’d really appreciate some guidance on the business flight we just had back from Atlanta. Used 2 companion vouchers and approx 270k Avios to fly to LAX and then back from ATL for a family of 3. Flight out was a dream and no issues at all. However, the return flight was a nightmare. It started at check in which took around 2 hours due to the previous nights flight being cancelled and re-booking them on an additional flight on Saturday evening. Apparently the I.T system could not book both sets of passengers in! We were due to take of at 22:20 but eventually departed at 01:15. This delay was due to there being no catering on the flight due to a miscommunication with the caterers. We were offered a voucher for food to use but was then told that due to the time, all the restaurants were closed! On the flight we were offered a bagel and some snacks. There was a full bar service. When we landed we were again offered a £10 voucher. BA have offered 6000 Avios each as a gesture of goodwill but I think this is insulting. As I’ve mentioned, I’d really appreciate some guidance as to what to expect from BA.

Good morning from Escape Lounge @ EDI. Entry via PP.
Very quiet in here at moment.
Lounge is very nice. Decent selection of breakfast items.
BA to LHR. 1 HR 10 delay.

Anybody know roughly if Virgin have a time of year they offer the increased sign up bonus? Looking to sign up and get the voucher to use from LAS-MAN next year as Virgin is still a decent option if you’re flexible like us and live near Manchester.

If not; prepare for a record breaking sign up offer the day after I sign up. Will probably be one day this week once I’m back from LA.

Good morning for me not for OH. Enjoying breakfast at hotel at Inverness airport before walking to terminal for flight back to London. Feeling sorry for OH and everyone else on Caledonian sleeper last night. He always takes a sleeper compartment and I always fly as I can’t sleep on the train and booked in advance flights are cheaper. Everyone turfed off train at Edinburgh as tree on line so moved over onto LNER. Not happy as not even offered first class seats. Just had another message. Train has hit someone so now stuck near North Allerton! Just hope I haven’t jinxed my flight back to LHR and we arrive on time!

I agree 6k Avios sounds poor. On the other hand at 1p per Avios that equates to £60. Pkus the £10 voucher gives you a total of £70 – that is way more than the value of the food you would’ve received onboard.

You don’t mention what time you arrived in London. If you arrived more than 3 hours later than originally scheduled I think you may be entitled to compensation of £520 per passenger.

Full amount or half may well be payable, though BA may argue the catering was outside their control. Flyertalk may have the reason for the delay in its relevant thread.

Starting point – you’re probably not entitled to anything.

If you were on Saturdays BA226, that arrived 2h 17 late so no delay compensation is due, and everything is based on arrival time rather than departure time. If >3h late arrival that is different.

There’s nothing statutory for missing catering – sounds like they did have a bar as that’s loaded in London for outbound and return, and bagel was probably intended to be breakfast. I’d maybe complain that 6k Avios isn’t much – submit a concise complaint to customer relations via their webform – and hope for the best. I’m not sure of exact urnaround times at the moment but it can take weeks to get a response.

Honestly, disappointing as the whole experience sounds, I’d consider whether you really would have had a meal on such a late evening departure? If not, you’re 18k Avios up on your next trip and you might get some more Avios from customer relations in due course.

Thanks for all of your wise words. It was more the incompetence of the staff at Atlanta that irked me. The cabin crew were equally frustrated and did their best in the situation. We could see them having heated discussions trying to get on the plane themselves!
