    This is today’s chat thread.

If you have specific questions about Avios, hotels or credit cards, please ask them in the appropriate forum and not here. This thread is a good place to post interesting deals you have spotted or your general thoughts on travel and all things miles and points. Thank you for contributing.

A quick data point which might save some a bit of head scratching later. When you earn one of the new BA Milestone rewards, e.g. 2500 Avios for 5500 TP, it gets bundled in with the Flight entry along with the Avios for the flight which triggers it.

If you expand the entry for the flight, after the flight details and booking reference there is an additional line saying ‘Milestone reward: 2500 Avios’.

And good morning from Singapore where I have been up for a couple of hours, Mrs Froggee surfaced an hour ago, Kermit just appeared, and Freddo is still missing in action.

BA cabin crew chatted relentlessly through the night on the flight which certainly took the dampener off Kermit’s 52K direct aisle access seat. I had ear plugs in but Mrs Froggee was unamused. It is weird how the control dynamic on a plane makes it so tricky to go and ask the crew to stoppit.

I booked the serviced apartment through Hotels.com for 20% c@shback and we were rewarded when we turned up by being put in a lower category apartment. Thankfully it was sorted with the receptionist explaining that the reservation came through from Expedia and they didn’t actually specify a “premier” apartment, just three bedrooms. I guess we were fortunate that they had one of the bigger ones empty and clean as an extra 400 square feet makes a big difference. Plus we got given a bit of cookies for the inconvenience!

@Froggee – have a great time in Singapore! It is one of the many additional (and consistently provided) benefits of BA CW to have staff chatting loudly all night, clattering cutlery and clomping up and down the aisles. It’s unique to BA.

Perhaps they should replace metal cutlery with quieter plastic utensils, thus responding to passenger feedback to reduce noise. Doesn’t help with the other two ‘features’ of course, but you have to start somewhere.

Morning from Gran Canaria where we return home today. Does anyone have any knowledge of the PP lounge available at LPA please – food, seating etc?

Maybe slippers for the cabin crew, and invest in sign language courses for them, as part of the £7Billion investment! Ive flown many times in 1A and 1K and Tbh, I’ve not had any issues with this, I will admit my hearing is not as clever as it once was, so I don’t have the hearing capability of a “greater wax moth”

When flying, (and I detest the whole traveling thing to get to a destination, from parking at the airport, to the transfer at the destination, but it’s a means to an end) I wear noise cancelling headphones watching the IFE, or ear plugs when sleeping, with a meal in between, this works for me.

There was minimal stomping. I guess they were concerned that they might be asked for something. But one of the few times a member of cabin crew came through, he was checking the window shades, and he managed to give me a good kick stepping over me to examine the windows of the adjacent seat.

    It really is tragically bad.

I feel I overpaid despite it being the most cheaply priced redemption possible (55,000 Avios + £325 each one way in business courtesy of Barclays). If I had paid the “cheap” fare of £2,800 return I would have been genuinely annoyed.

Waiting for the car to take me the 4.5 hours (hopefully) through the exciting Indian traffic to Chandigarh and flight 1 of 3 to home.

@Gordon – unfortunately it’s a matter of deportment rather than footwear and other airlines train staff to move around the cabin quietly. It’s also not just the noise of the heavy footsteps but the vibration created, We really don’t like 1A/1K for all the above reasons, as well as the fact BA staff consider the First galley to be their staff common room.

    1,431 posts

@Froggee That’s why I choose seats away from the galley. I take a risk that my food choice may be limited instead.

I think I would’ve said ouch to the kicking. I assume crew member didn’t apologise for doing so?

Hope you have a good rest of your holiday (don’t think you ever have a restful one based on your wonderful post-trip reports).

Kids are so limiting. Trying to get seats that work best for them is always suboptimal for us. Neither slept well this flight which is a first in these seats.

The kicking woke me and as I came to, he was off to kick somebody else.

We are having the first encounter of the trip with my in-laws later. Mrs Froggee has already explained to the boys that even if she sounds angry at her mum, she still loves her and it is just how they talk to each other!

@Froggee If you need any spawn-based entertainment, both the Minecraft movie and Ne Zha 2 are on in Imax at the Shaw Orchard Rd.!

Morning, is the 20% Amex dining credit on Platinum gone for good? I see it is not on the Offers list anymore but it is still on the Amex Experience app. showing the list of the restaurants.
Has the offer triggered for anyone who dined at one of the outlets from 1 April?

@MGW I was told you need three things when driving in India, good eyes, good ears and good luck.

Good morning from the Neptuno lounge at MAD T4S ahead of our IB flight to Japan. About to spend 2 and a bit weeks exploring Osaka, Nagoya, Takayama, Fuji area and Tokyo as a family of 5. It’s been my wife’s dream since she was a kid.

Honestly, this has only been made possible through the help of this site and forum where I’ve spent the last 2-3 years reading and learning how we could achieve this on 1.5x charity-job salaries.

I’ve mostly stayed quiet, reading and learning; but on the occasions where I’ve asked questions I’ve been met with a huge amount of helpful information.

For my 8yo twins, this is their first time flying and for it to be to Japan, with lounge access etc is a real treat.

Thank you to everyone who contributes regularly, to @rob and team for the site. You’ve helped to literally make a dream come true.

@WoodyYork We did the same this time last year, and again only thanks to HfP. My partner didn’t even know business class existed before she met me and now she’s flown Singapore, Qatar and BA! We feel so lucky.

PS: I’m so jealous, Japan must be my favourite place.

@WoodyYork I feel the same about my upcoming trip to South America 😊 Though I am very jealous of your trip to Japan, like your wife it’s been a dream of mine since I was little – that’s my plan for the next big trip, maybe 2026/2027?!

Hope you all have a fantastic time!

That’s impressive. With 3 kiddos in tow I’ve not figured out how we’d manage to secure business seats to any destinations that we’d like to go.

    Thanks.

Securing 5 economy reward seats over Easter was a nightmare this time last year, hence re-positioning via Madrid.

Good morning from a sofa lounge seat whatever it’s called on a Finnair flight to Helsinki.
Cathay lounge at terminal 3 was very nice and I enjoyed the noodle bar.
Mrs Aston is currently a vegetarian and was not pleased with the lack of choices.
But she preferred it to BA galleries though

I can answer my own question now re a PP lounge in Gran Canaria / LPA.

The Sala Galdos lounge (VIP lounge is the branding) is lovely. No issues getting in with 2 x PP for the 4 of us. Lounge is quite large, comfortable seats, lots of food/drink options and nice views of the runway via a terrace and large floor to ceiling windows.

    Oh wow, nice.
    I’ll be in Osaka tomorrow.
Let me know what nice restaurants you find
