Anyone with a BA AMEX card checked their Avios balance on their AMEX card lately? Some crazy amounts showing! Mine jumped from 19 Avios to 179,389

As discussed earlier, it’s showing total balance on your BA account.
Are you supposed to be able to connect to the Internet using the BA free messaging service onboard? Or is asking that breaking the first rule of flight club?
Yea, but it’s very slow.
I’m curious where the two amounts come from, is this a joint premier account and you’re both enrolled for the avios? I have a joint premier account with my wife but only I get Avios from it as I thought only one person could in a joint account, if that isn’t the case I’ll look to getting her setup too!
@Dom we both have separate Barclays Premier accounts with the £12 per month Avios subscription and so that we can earn two vouchers per annum. I don’t think you can both subscribe and earn on a joint account…
As a second thought if in-ear is an option, I ended up using the newest Airpod Pro 2s (the ones that do hearing tests etc) for a long trip recently when my wife nicked my Sony over-ears. The improvement vs the first generation Airpod Pro in noise cancelling is enormous – they’re now really rather good. Come with 4 different size of in-ear attachment so should fit even unusual ears 😀
Seconding @TSS ‘s suggestion. The compact size fits with my minimalist preference for travel packing. I have got some memory foam ear buds that make the Pro2s fit even more snugly and so block ambient noise even better. They can’t quite match the best over ear imho BUT (and it is a big but) they are much more comfortable to wear while sleeping if you do so on your side and so they win on overnight flights for me.
My gaming-mad son uses Steelseries headphones which he has dubbed “parent-cancelling” (and I can attest to the effectiveness from standing behind him and shouting!), but they are rather cumbersome!

I have the AirPods Pro, I was looking at the new ones, are they that much better re sound quality?
@Gordon they reportedly can block more than twice the noise levels of the first generation. Can’t believe that overall sound quality is increased by the same factor but the sound cancellation is very good for such small buds.

I have a pair in front of me right now. They can’t be connected with my phone.
So I guess your son must have a high-end version.
Useful to be able to use it with a gaming PC and a smartphone both.

I hope my son never gets wind of those. Being an annoying type, I get immense pleasure from standing near to him when he’s gaming with friends with his headset on and using gamer vernacular so that they can all hear me. “Sigma, skibidi, rizz, sent, touch grass…”
@Guernsey Globetrotter – Thank you for the feedback, I’ll wait until the next ones come along then, as noise cancelling as good as it is, is not a priority for me.
@Aston, He does have them connected to some sort of port, I assumed his phone might also connect onto this, but it’s a bit of a mystery to me! They would definitely work for cancelling fellow passengers.
I have some earbuds which were on sale on Amazon for £21 (allegedly down from (£130), the sound is excellent and definitely blocks out anything else which is going on at the time:
***Wireless Earbuds, Bluetooth 5.4 Headphones Sport with 4 ENC Noise Cancelling Mic, 50H Wireless Headphones with Earhooks HiFi Stereo Deep Bass, IP7 Waterproof Bluetooth Earphones for Sport/Gym/Running***
They don’t look at all high end, but they deliver some great sounds, if you like your bass, lol.
@ankomonkey, that’s also a mystery to me …
@ExpatInBerlin – I’ve just belated responded to your question in yesterday’s bits article re Melia Vienna (at the bottom of p1).
@Chas just read it, much appreciated thanks! I have Melia Gold via Amex Plat so with the 20% voucher combined with the current £75 cashback off it’s a decent price for a long weekend city break.
Well that was an interesting arrival in Athens – moments before landing engines roared and we took off again. First time I’ve experienced a go-around. Captain announced when we were high up and plainly doing a big circle to head back to the airport that it was due to a flock of birds. Definitely better safe than sorry and only added 10 minutes but well handled by the crew.
