…Golden Visa scheme ended a couple of months ago, but I guess if you have that much money you can pay a Spanish lawyer to sort something out!

Non-lucrative visas NLVs for Spain have a significant number of bureaucratic stages to get through with translations of documents and apostillation, something that all lawyers have to adhere with.

I wouldn’t expect anything less. Hence my question about lawyers!

It appears that Spanish lawyers have turned a corner, when I purchased my property in La Alfoquia, after the 2008 property crash, I was informed that the Spanish lawyers and solicitors were taking cash for sales through the back door, leaving their offices with large sums of money in carrier bags! and the criminals caught wind of this and robbed them when they left, they couldn’t exactly report these robberies.

That also doesn’t surprise me if they were taking their lead from politicians like Julián Muñoz in that era!

I think there are now laws around how much businesses can accept in cash payments; the government has been quite aggressive about collecting taxes in recent years.

@Gordon – that made me smile. When my kids were at pre-prep school, I was talking with a member of staff on first day of term when my neighbour walked past with a large carrier bag under his arm and asked if he could talk to the Headmistress. It turned out the bag was full of £50 notes with which he had hoped to pay his children’s school fees! All parents received a note that afternoon saying fees had to be paid by cheque or standing order – no credit card in those days! He ran his own airline charter business until fairly recently.

Lol! Hard-core HFPs would swoon at the thought of paying cash for anything which could be put on a points-earning card.

His wife was really embarrassed. We never did find out where the cash came from. His son went to the same senior school as mine. I think he would have needed a few suitcases to pay the boarding fees and probably a car load of cash now!!

I’d rather go hungry than eating at a cash-only pub!

I’d describe the look from our bursar when I raised
the idea of paying by Amex as “withering”!!

Enjoy your travels and hope your next car is what you have asked for.

Thank you, that will be Monday out of Nashville where the reviews for Avis/Budget are pretty appalling so I’m not holding out much hope. I broke my own rule, so only have myself to blame but it was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper than the nearest competitor. I’ll have another look at pricing alternatives with a view to cancelling and rebooking.
