Hi all, hope someone can shine some light. I intend to cancel my amex platinum before the October 2 fee change rule for pro rata reimbursement. I initially wasn’t planning on this but don’t agree with this change. However I was intending to use my £150 International dining credit 20th September and doubt the credit will have been processed by this point. After cancellation would they still process a credit for this or should I just call that quits and spend that money on another card?
Thanks for any advice!
We had a meal on 16/6 in Berlin and dining credit came through on 22/6 – so i guess there is a fair chance of yours coming through ok between 20/9 and 2/10.
Out of interest, why don’t you agree with the change?
If you’ve had a platinum for a while surely it’s a charge card which is unaffected by the change
Also if you weren’t planning on cancelling why would you cancel because of a change that doesn’t affect you. Or do you mean you weren’t going to cancel until after oct 2?
Personally I don’t agree with the change because they don’t give you a fair warning of when the charge will post / anniversary date. IF that changes then I’m good.
I’m not sure why there should be any confusion re the anniversary / billing date? On my two cards at least, these dates have both been fixed since taking out the cards, both over 15 years ago. I have anniversary dates on the 10th and 27th and the fee is billed on the following month’s statement which is the 7/8th and 22nd/23rd of the following month. The only possible confusion is what happens if you cancel during that gap between anniversary and fee billing.
There’s no confusion JDB I just have other things to note in my life than the date I took out a card 7 years ago … it also didn’t make any difference to my life as I got pro rata refunds …
Most other subscriptions tell you the exact date they renew etc why should credit card fees be any different?

I know the exact date of my Amex card anniversaries because it is stated at the outset and if that date particularly mattered to me (as it does to you) I could make a diary entry that notifies me every year. Your card contract isn’t a ‘subscription’ and doesn’t ‘renew’ – it’s an open ended contract of no fixed duration.
That’s the whole point IT IS relevant now.
Simply changing the T&Cs and not reminding people when their anniversary isn’t good for me and I suspect many others.
I could phone and ask for each card individually…maybe I will waste their time when I have nothing better to do.
Re open ended contract what makes credit cards different to any other auto renewing subscription where you sign up to renew annually until you tell then you no longer want the service like Amazon prime (where it will tell me the exact date I need to make my choice if I look in the right place)
