Hi Guys, my LHR – EDI flight got cancelled 2 hours before departure today, which was leaving at 1:50PM from LHR and arriving into EDI for 3:15PM. I have been put on a flight leaving London CITY at 8:30PM and arriving into EDI for 9:45PM.
Will i be entitled to compensation? And also i wonder if i could find out the reason for cancellation.
Appreciate the help as always
Flight status in the BA app shows weather related cancellation, so doubtful would be comp.
Other more learned folk may be able to confirm/deny cancellation reason from elsewhere
If it’s weather, then no compo. However, it’s difficult to see how different LHR weather could be from LCY!!
Is the journey part of a longer trip so you would have to collect bags and get them to LCY? BA is still liable for duty of care plus the cost of getting you to the new airport.
Also, if you want to move to another LHR flight, you can ask for this. It might be possible to make such a change in MMB.
I’ve just landed into LHR from DUB with a new miss connection onto LAX.
VERY high winds at LHR are effecting arrivals with longer times required between landings at LHR…inevitable that there are cancellations.
Act of God as it were rather than BAs fault this time.
App shows the 15.30 from LHR also cancelled, the 17.00 currently delayed to 18.23 due to late inbound aircraft, then 18.30 currently on time, so LCY flights could be quickest. Possibly LCY quieter so easier to cope with air traffic?
But worth looking at MMB for options. There are a few seats on earlier flights out of LCY, MMB should let you rebook or ask at the airport
you would probably be quicker getting the train to Edinburgh
Except there is the inevitable disruption due to objects in the overhead wires… is calming down now
BA call centre can rebook you to LNER services though so it’s always an option if the trains are behaving

Both LHR and LCY have had reduced traffic today as a result of high winds.
However, BA at LHR are having significant staff shortages around ground handling. But I’m sure a reputable company would never mislead someone as to the cause of a delay
Thanks a lot for all the info guys, i was doing a self connect journey from LAX – LHR on United and the LHR-EDI on BA. HAving looked at MMB the new rescheduled flight is from city, but I’ve quite a few bags so I’ll struggle. Lizzie line and heathrow express closed due to line issues. So ill have to taxi to city or see it they can get me on a flight tomorrow
Also i must have missed the hugh winds as its just a light breeze now
@BajiNahid – I seem to recall now us warning you that this wasn’t a great idea on separate bookings! You’ll probably struggle to get anything out of BA retrospectively as they will say that all they had to do was to get you from a London airport to EDI in terms of re-routing and UK261. Have you spoken to ground staff and asked about them paying for a taxi to LCY, they seem to be have been quite amenable about this kind of thing recently when engaged with directly at LHR?
Great example of never booking connection with little time spare. I am not saying its the case here but it really should be an overnighter.

Disagree. I typically would only have baggage I could easily handle myself. But I think mostly so long as you don’t fret endlessly and have a relaxed attitude, between some Avios and a credit card you can sort most things out. In this example regardless of connection time the failing is in the second flight, not the first. So even if he’d have left a week when he got to LHR for the EDI flight it would have been cancelled.
IIRC, OP is going to be in T4 with luggage so speaking to BA staff in T5 may present some logistical issues. Presumably also not exactly bright-eyed and bushy-tailed if recently arrived off an overnighter from LAX! I’d be tempted to try and rebook from LHR tomorrow and see if the T4 HIE is available on points or a reasonable amount of cash.

@northernlass , I was at the queue in zone F ready to be rebooked for my Edinburgh flight but was told there is a flight from city. I told them that atm the trains are down so i cant get to city to please try to book me from heathrow. A queue agent called Sandy, standing at zone F, comes over and tells the helpful agent at the desk, to not help me and leave me alone to sort it out myself. I was absolutely gobsmacked at her behavior. She started becoming confrontational with me and told me to leave the area as there are other passengers needing rebooking, i told her that i need to be rebooked aswell as i dont have a flight available and the system has automatically put me onto city, and how am i supposed to get there.
She told the desk agent to get up and move desks as i would not move and smirk at me whilst i was telling her off.
All Heathrow flights are full today so you’re still better off getting in an Uber over to London City. You can send in the receipt to ba.com afterwards and they’ll pay up

This has nothing to do with my connection in any way shape or form?
@Baji I am shocked to hear this.
What did you do to kick that agent off? Or, was there something about you that could have unfairly provoked her?
If that had happened to me, and I’d just come off a flight from Los Angeles, I could have had a meltdown with unpredictable results.
Such a shame one never has the presence of mind in these situations to get one’s phone out and start recording…
What would other people recommend, if picked on in this way?
I can’t remember if it was here or on FT there was similar reports of a BA manager shouting at people queuing to rebooked as if that was unreasonable behaviour at the airlines home base !
In the wacky world of BA you are probably better to decamp to the bar, get in the phone / live chat queue and hit up google flights to see what your options are. The call centre are as empowered if not more empowered to get you onto LNER or another airlines flight if you’ve been cancelled within 24hrs of departure. If needs be book your own hotel (up to £200, if you need to spend more then keep proof) and pay for your own food and transport (no alcohol). Keep receipts and claim from ba.com along with any compo due
If you’ve made a reasonable and provable attempt to contact BA, there isn’t a same day rebooking showing in your app and there is an option to get you home the same day or reasonably sooner via another transport method or carrier then book yourself and get on your way. BA are good about paying up (as I think they’ve accepted it is just cheaper than putting adequate IRROPS technology in place) or otherwise the Uk/EU regs are firmly on your side if you need to MCOL them

It wasn’t impossible to get from LHR to LCY. Just take the Picadilly, then change instead.
It was also absolutely wild today, trees down and fence panels every where. In bad weather the LHR domestics are first to be cancelled.
Just the other day there you were telling us that you
LadyLondon, I have done absolutely nothing but arrive at the airport to find out that my flight has been cancelled. Now my rescheduled flight by BA for tomorrow (14/03/2022) has now also been cancelled. The attitude of the supervisor at check in was just disgusting and unwarranted. She told the check in agent to move to a new desk and to ignore me as they would not rebook my flight.
Been given a hotel by BA and expenses for refreshments by ay of a £20 voucher.
Why are you still hanging around Heathrow when you had so many opportunities to repatriate?
It’s not hard to get from LHR to LCY, even if the Elizabeth isn’t operating. LNER was operating today, albeit with some disruption due to weather.
I appreciate that it would be humiliating and degrading for an Edinburgh person, but there were also services operating to Paisley today – it’s only a short hop to Queen Street on the bus then a Scotrail to the better side.

Andrew, not everyone can do the trek to gatwick, city etc from heathrow. It might be easy for you but dont be so blindsighted in the thinking that everyone can do the same as what you’re suggesting. It’s absolutely missions going from GLA airport to Edinburgh and not worth that hassle.
