Rebooked for 7am and thats cancelled. Now 3rd time lucky and hopefully i can get home back in one piece after another 8 hour wait at LHR.

24 hours of non stop unorganised chaos.

Great example of never booking connection with little time spare. I am not saying its the case here but it really should be an overnighter.

This has nothing to do with my connection in any way shape or form?

I dont think you understood when I wrote in plain English “I am not saying its the case here”.

    Good luck and safe journey.

If it’s a great example then surely it does apply here?!

As someone pointed out previously, there would always have been cancellations in this instance so the stress was possibly unavoidable, but single PNRs do give a lot more protection when stuff like this happens.

Make sure you keep receipts for all the proper meals you’ll need to have whilst waiting and claim them.

Shame you didn’t Uber across to LCY – all 3 LCY-EDI flights did operate more or less on time on Monday eve. Glad you made it back in the end!

Piece on the Telegraph today on BA and it’s “shoddy service” – so seems like you’re not the only one unhappy with them at the moment…

Data Point, thanks to everyone who helped with this, got expenses reimbursed and compensation paid out too for my rebooked flight that was cancelled due to operational reasons.

My flight to LHR was as well cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. It was supposed to have landed at 21:10 and I was rebooked into another flight that landed at 18:05.

Funny enough all the flights below did land around the time our original cancelled flight was supposed to, so much for adverse weather conditions.

    BA0781 landed at 20:45
    BA6035 landed at 20:55
    BA0797 landed at 21:08
    BA1495 landed at 21:14
    BA0419 landed at 21:24

This will be an interesting fight to fight for EU261 compensation.

What usually happens is ATC tells the airline to reduce the “flow rate” by X% so they can do things like space out arrivals etc. BA will then decide which flights to cancel to impact the least amount of people or that has the least impact to future flights (e.g. prioritise long haul, night stops etc). Domestics are a favourite as there are train alternatives (BA has an agreement with LNER). So it can be a legitimate reason even though flights are still operating

Does BA occasionally get lucky on a day that they may otherwise have some operational problem? No doubt! But I really can’t imagine getting very far in trying to figure that out unfortunately
