    We’re looking at doing some domestic flights within the US next year. We did a couple last year and booked directly with AA giving our BAEC details at the time of booking. Several weeks later we were notified the flights would be operated by JetBlue (which were very good btw). However many months and many emails later (to BA & AA) the TP’s were not awarded because no arrangement was in place for flights operated by JetBlue.

    Does anyone know how we can be assured that AA will operated the AA flights? I know the alliance between AA and JB has recently ceased but we don’t want to fall into the same trap next time.

    We have tried to plan a multi city trip on BA (LON-NYC, NYC-LAX, LAX-BOS, BOS-LON) but it says no flights available. I imagine this is because there is a direct flight to LAX and it’s not economical for AA to codeshare domestically.

    Any ideas gratefully received. The domestic flights will nudge us into gold and it would be a shame to miss out on this for the reasons stated above.

    It will always prioritise direct flights, but if I use Google flights and select NYC as a connecting airport you can find OneWorld LHR-JFK-LAX; LAX-BOS; BOS-LHR all on one ticket. The JFK-LAX leg is on AA metal so will earn TP’s. There is no way to guarantee this won’t be cancelled and you moved on to JB, but it’s unlikely. Personally I always fly JB Mint for transcon anyway (with OneWorld for transatlantic) as it’s a vastly superior product than anything AA or Alaska has to offer and better flight times. Plus you can earn Avios (but not TP) by crediting to Qatar.

    The BA multi city flight only tool is a joke. I’ve gotten better options using the BA holidays equivalent. And another option is to see if AA can price the entire trip up for you.

    Generally BA can’t sell stand alone US domestic flights but it can if they are connecting off a transatlantic.

    So I’ve been able to book LHR-JFK-SFO via BA as the JFK-SFO was within a certain time frame of landing at JFK. If you’re spending a couple of days in NYC before going to LAX then that’s likely why the booking is falling over.

    Is a claim for Original Routing Credit available here? If you booked an AA flight that was due to earn TP but were subsequently routed on Jetblue, I thought ORC allowed you to get the TPs and avios you’d have received were it not for the change AA made?

    That covers changes on flying days, things you accept in advance aren’t covered.

    BA multi city tool is poor, but on a simple itinerary like you’re describing it works fine. Use JFK and LHR, these will work fine. Boston is a poor point to leave the US for UK simply as the overnight is too short to get meaningful sleep. What dates are you looking at, AA only release at 330 days not as early as BA.

    A much better tool for more complex itineraries is ITA Matrix, but it does require some learning to make use of it.
