The cheapest EY business class tickets are no longer offering lounge access or seat selection. Have been monitoring a fare for a few days – this just seems to have kicked in overnight.
In their defence the discount for the cheapest fares is pretty slim.

Oh that’s a shame, they’ve had a great run of discount fares over from various places in Europe recently, hopefully lounge access isn’t too much more? What’s the price difference with lounge access?
It’s pretty marginal, £20-£30 per person on a two sector flight. Also gets you a limo in Abu Dhabi and far more generous cancellation terms, so I wouldn’t be all that surprised if the fares changed as well in due course. The premium is unchanged from business value to comfort compared to what I was seeing yesterday.
Interesting that for the trip I’m looking at in the summer, Etihad is pricing significantly lower than many other airlines. Surely a bit late to be trying to pad the books ahead of IPO…
They announced the changes to the fares a few weeks ago. They became effective today though.
I have a business value ticket LHR-AUH-NRT return.
It’s not clear what happens if you upgrade a leg to F, for example one of the LHR-AUH flights. Does that count as a full ticket reissue meaning no lounge on the non-upgraded legs? So if I upgrade the inbound AUH-LHR leg and it goes through a few hours before the NRT-AUH flight as expected, then I turn up at NRT and have no lounge access?
The rules should apply from the time you bought the ticket, so if you bought more than a week ago, there ought to be no problem.
What mechanic were you going to try to use to upgrade? the last minute auction? If so I doubt that will change anything – am sure for most airlines it works like an op-up so the ticket doesn’t change.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I’m using the bid for upgrade system. The ticket rules do apply from when I bought it, unless the booking is reticketed in which case the new rules apply. Just trying to avoid doing anything which inadvertently triggers a reticket. It would be odd if an upgrade on one leg meant you lost benefits on the other legs, though. I tried asking Etihad via their human messaging services but that didn’t work.
