    And what do you think pralines are made of?🙄

    @masaccio – for what it’s worth, what you can order online from Läderach is different from what they sell in their stores, some of which is the giant bars they break up and sell you a piece of, and some are chocolates with a very short shelf life.

    *sigh*

    HC marketing 20 years ago was all lies. Got it.

    @Meta – another +1 for Minamoto Kitchoan, which we always pop into when doing the Waterstones/Fortnum’s route with our son. Also, they have some very reasonably-priced items for
    small treats.

    @JDB
    – we will be doing a similar albeit short route next week: Paris then train to Nice for Carnival / Menton lemon festival: any recommendations from your latest trip?!

    @Michael-C I don’t do recommendations as one never knows what others like! So I can only report restaurants we visited and would be happy to go to again.

    In the old town, Olive et Artichaut and Bar des Oiseaux, slightly similar in style of French contemporary food with frequently changing menus, good quality and reasonable prices. Both small and very busy, Oiseaux has the better decor. May sound odd, but we really like a Peruvian restaurant called Yosé in Rue Bonaparte but not at the busy end with all the restaurants where Peixes is a good option.

    In Cagnes-sur-Mer, La Table de Kamiya is the French restaurant with a Japanese chef referenced above.

    You probably won’t have time to go to Vallauris, but Les Dilettants is good but slightly out of town so really needs a car.

    In Cannes, at this time, of year Aux Bons Enfants. The nearby Marché Forville has construction work at present.

    As ever in France, the Gault & Millau guide is your friend for restaurants right across the spectrum.

    On the culture front, in additional to all the great museums of Nice, there’s a temporary Dufy exhibition at the Palais des Beaux Arts; not very big but really good.

    @JDB thanks as always, including for the Dufy tip: might swap out our usual Chagall visit for this!
