Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Flights that were completed by 2022 but were credited in 2023

  • 50 posts

I flew 4 ba flights in Dec22 and I earned over 1200 tier points on Qantas flights between my year start in September 22 and Dec 22.

Theses Qantas flights were not originally credited to my account but were after I complained and were added to in Jan23.

I phoned the Silver team twice on both occasions they agreed that I should be moved to Gold. The first request by some kind of validation team denied my request although It was only when I phoned the Silver team that I found out. They re submitted my request.

If that fails where else do I turn to?

Are you sure all those 4 BA flights were qualifying for status?

If any were redemptions they wouldn’t count for example.

I was suffering with the same issue. It’s quite confusing but ultimately BA why they didn’t roll me through the tiers.

My tier point year reset in late October 2022. I flew a LHR-MIA business return in early Dec 2022 via Finnair (which were codeshares) @140 TP each way. I should have obtained enough points to move past the 225 tier point threshold for Bronze that was in place until 31 Dec 2022, after which it reverted to the pre-pandemic level of 300. The points hadn’t appeared by the end of January (I understand it is common for codeshare carriers to take a long time to post, or simply never post) so I filled in a form for missing points and they were finally posted in mid Feb. But no move into Bronze. I spent several phonically querying why not, on the premise that if the points had been posted on time (i.e. before 31 Dec), I would have exceeded 225.

But they say issue is this: although codeshare flights are eligible for tier points, they do not count towards the 2 eligible flights required in addition to the tier point threshold (it’s 4 eligible flights for silver/gold) because they weren’t “marketed or operated” by BA or Iberia. My account still shows 0 out of 2 eligible flights and I suspects yours may be the same if you haven’t actually flown a BA flight. I’m confused by this as one flight was on a BA plane (i.e. BA metal/logo on the outside) and had a BA flight number; the other was AA but still had a BA flight number).

This is what BA counts as eligible flights for earning status

    https://www.britishairways.com/travel/ecjoinbaflights/public/en_gb

“Eligible flights are defined as those flights marketed or operated by British Airways and those flights marketed and operated by Iberia.

‘Marketed’ means the flight will have a BA flight number (in your itinerary or on your ticket).

‘Operated’ means the aircraft that you travel on is a British Airways aircraft (including franchises and BACityflyer).

‘Marketed and operated by Iberia’ means the flight will have an IB flight number and the aircraft you travel on is an Iberia aircraft (including franchises).

Reward bookings and agency or industry discounted bookings are not eligible.”

I’m reading this as @supermac has the 4 qualifying flights and earned enough Tier Points to hit the reduced thresholds that ended on 31 Dec 2022, but those TPs posted very late and (s)he hasn’t hit the normal 1500TP threshold since.

If so, this sounds like there is some sort of glitch, maybe the lower thresholds have now been switched off or they don’t work with such a big time gap between flying and posting.

I’d suggest you ask on the Flyertalk BAEC board, there are a lot of extremely knowledgeable people on there including some BA insiders. You could persevere with Silver line but you’ll probably just get a “computer says no” response again.

Good luck, hope you get this resolved somehow.

Many many thanks for all your replies and I will also take up Stu_N suggestion.

The details on my app say that I have taken 4BA flights and I have enough tier points to achieve gold via the Dec 22offer) The tier points needed were added in Feb 23 with details of the flights Which? were taken in Dec 22.

I can’t see any reason not to be credited to gold as do the BA silver team. Is there some one in BA that I can refer this to?

Finally BA have have agreed to Gold although it’s taken them 3 months.

All my tier points were to Sydney first class over three legs each way booked through Qantas. Thats 4 Emirates flights (brilliant) and 2 with Qantas (worse than BA).

Dispite adding my BA frequent flyer to all the bookings I had to pester BA to add the flights. Thankfully I kept all my boarding passes as proof. However on one of the Emirates passes it didn’t say codeshare with Qantas which was not an easy one to get around. I showed a screenshot of the boarding screens at Singapore for the exact timings of my flights (
with the date hidden)and pointed it that on the Qantas timetable it currently shows it as a codeshare. Success!

    Gold until Oct 24, result.
