Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Executive Club Free seat selection for Silver

  • gavman99 22 posts

This morning (Sun 17th Apr) my wife’s BA exec account was updated to silver status. We have a couple of future existing bookings so we were now expecting to be able to pick seats for these bookings free of charge. However when she goes into the seat selection screens, it still says she has to pay for seats.

Is there typically a delay between hitting silver and the benefit of free seat selection being available?

The future bookings were done in my name (I am bronze) and she is a passenger on my booking. Does that make a difference? I was expecting her to be able to pick our seats for free using her silver status. Is my understanding correct ?

    Thanks.

This is a common problem. Remove her BAEC number from the booking then add it again & this will pull the new status through. Sometimes you need to do this via the Finnair or Royal Jordanian websites. Your BA PNR will work on both of these.

Thanks for the info. I was able to remove her membership number using the Finnair site then re-added it on BA.com however it still says we have to pay. Even when I’m logged in to her account it says pay now or book seat for free 7 days before departure.

Hoping it’s maybe some sort of overnight update or something like that.

I had the same issue a couple of months ago. I was able to reserve the seats the following day free of charge.

Usually takes an extra day or couple of days for the new status to filter through.

If it changed to silver this morning then try again tomorrow but it still could be be Tuesday but tomorrow is most likely though I would do the old log odd and one again routine.

It’s now updated so all seats have now been reserved at no cost !! Thanks all.

Yes, a short delay is typical – we had to wait a day or so for free seat selection on existing bookings when my wife’s Silver status kicked in after we got our BA Holidays double tier points.
