Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club How would I maximise points earned overall?

I want to fly from LHR to JFK later this year. I have an AMEX Gold Credit Card which earns 2 points per £1 on airlines, and 3 points per £1 on American Express Travel.

If I book through BA, it says I will get about 6900 Avios. If I book through BA, would I get the 6900, and the AMEX points if I use the card? Would I get 2x or 3x if this is the case?

Alternatively, if I use the American Express Travel site, I would get 3x, but would I still get the 6900 Avios on my BA account?

How does this work? What’s the best way to get the most points? When it says American Express Travel, does booking through BA count as American Express Travel as they are partnered? Or is it still only 2x?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks. 🙂

If you fly if BA and enter your executive account number you’ll earn Avios from BA for flying. How many is impossible to say without knowing the fare class and your status level in the BAEC. I think this maybe the ‘about 6900’ you’re referring to. That’s roughly what you’d get for a flex economy ticket or a discounted premium economy ticket as an entry level Blue member.

Separately to above you have the opportunity to earn Amex Member Rewards on the Gold Card, which could if you wish be subsequently converted to Avios. If you book directly with BA you’ll get 2x the GBP spend as member reward points. If you book with Amex Travel you’ll get 3x the GBP spend as Member Rewards.

Amex Travel is a travel agent, so in the event of schedule changes or cancellations you have to deal with them, and not BA, this added layer is not always helpful.
