I have the 10 percent cash back offer to take advantage of but it is a card that has a balance transfer on it – can anyone confirm the rules for paying off purchases in this situation in order not to pay interest?

You need to go back and check the exact rules for your specific balance transfer offer.

But, more importantly, tell us about the 10% rebate offer you have with HSBC.

So I had an email as did a few others offering 10% cashback on transport food and fuel in uk up to £50 a month for October to December. Seems a mad offer – you have to make 10 transactions in a month but others had different numbers.

My understanding is that you have to make the requisite number of initial transactions on groceries, fuel or travel (3,5 10 or 15 I think), then you get 10% statement credit on further transactions for groceries, fuel and travel each month for up to 3 months.

Reading the t&cs, if you have a balance transfer on the card, I think that your purchases take priority – so if you pay off your entire bill each month, you’ll not incur any interest and earn up to £50, which will reduce your outstanding balance transfer amount by that value – so up to £150 off. Once the three months are up, back to normal.

The rules are quite confusing but I read them again and they say that you do get cashback on the 1st 10 transactions as well so it is not just from
    The 11th.
