Well, did the eligibility check yesterday, firm no. Logged into the app to see a banner reminding me to apply for a CC, personal loan and some other stuff. Thought why not, 30 seconds later Premier World Elite approved with, no joke, the highest credit limit I’ve ever had from a UK card.

my WE limit is twice my AMEX limit which in itself is pretty high. no idea what their criteria is

Main reason it shocked me is that I’ve had HSBC cards before, but no limit close to this. Not complaining, I won’t use it, but all good. I’m closing a heap of cards, so having one that doesn’t make my utilisation look bad overall can’t be a bad thing.

    Hi all,

I got some medical expenses coming up, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to sign up for the WE card.

I know it doesn’t offer points for HMRC spending. But how about medical expenses?

    Thanks

You actually won’t find the answer in the T&Cs. They simply don’t award points on a variety of unpublished categories. None of the terms will tell you that no points will be awarded for tax payments and although some might consider it a cash type transaction, it won’t attract a cash advance fee. HSBC is a peculiar animal.

Should be no issue, I have done with private doctors, hospitals (HCA and others).

Same! They gave me 10 times what virgin did, which was ridiculously low. I guess the lowest they give is high as premier.

Yes, credit limits are higher. They, even more now with the fee increase, expect higher earner/spenders as their customers. Their IT needs to catch next.

Followed @sloth previous replies – instead of upgrading my HSBC Advance account, I applied for a new Premier account and got approved the next day.

Then the day after my Advance account transformed into a Premier account too so now I have 2 premier current account.

Applied for the WE card and got instantly approved which is nice.

Quick question for people who have done this before – can I now switch the new premier current account to fulfill a switching offer without compromising my older (previously Advance) account?

Been with HSBC for many years so I wanted to keep this account for as long as possible.

    Thanks

yes you can switch the newer account with no issues if your older one has already been changed to premier

On a separate note, I have been a happer user of Curve Black for a long time now.

I mainly use it for the simplicity to be honest and for the 1% cashback + 1% FX cashback.

I know for sure the WE will not give any reward points for anything Fronted or cash withdrawals but will they give rewards points for normal day to day purchases being put through Curve?

One thing I forgot to mention, I already have their free Premier Card. Now that they support two credit cards for an account, if I open the WE card now, will I still get the bonus? Thanks

Does anyone know if I look at add someone as an additional card holder will HSBC do a credit check on them? The questions on the form suggest it might, looking to add a relative who is traveling a lot, but has just become self employed, so if they are credit checked may not pass.

That said, there is nothing on the form about agreeing to a credit check.

I think they do a soft check, as in identity etc, not a hard credit check for a supp card. Would make most sense as you are ultimately resposnsible for your supp’s spend, not them

If the other person is a HSBC customer already its just a formality. proof of ID. if not there are extra person check, but not the (as far as I remember) credit checks

There is currently a 20% bonus on transfers of HSBC points to Flying Blue. It runs until the 31st of October 2024 and seems to cover all of Flying Blue’s partner banks wolrdwide. HSBC UK is specifically mentioned as qualifying for the bonus.

    Hi all,

How long does it take for the points to Post?

I got the WE card and did some “Go back in time” via Curve on Thursday night last week, but still not seeing any points posted, even though I can see all the Curve transactions have been posted to the account.

    Thanks

Quite. When HSBC surreptitiously added several categories to the list excluded from rewards a few years back, I tried pretty hard to get hold of the list of categories from them. They did not free up this information despite supposedly asking a number of departments internally. At least other issuers provide a vague list of prohibited transactions which somewhat correlate with the MC merchant category list.

I’ve worked out what many of the excluded categories are through trial and error and use of MCC checker apps but there are probably more I haven’t tried.

Something doesn’t quite feel right about not knowing what transactions are excluded, they should be open with this information. As for peculiarity, it’s probably more so that for many years there were virtually no exclusions and they were awarding points on quasi-cash (6051) transactions among others. That particular category was otherwise universally seen as cash-like by card issuers.

Seems there is currently a 10% Asiamiles transfer bonus as well, although I can’t see any official confirmation of this anywhere. Just transferred enough points for 5,000 Asiamiles and got an extra 500 Asiamiles with the message “HSBC Premier – 10% bonus”. Unlike those 20% or even 25% transfer bonuses for Avios, 10% for Asiamiles is about as good as it ever gets–so if you’re going to stock up on Asiamiles now might be a good time (with the normal YMMV caveat).

    It’s publically available, I got an email earlier – 20% to AF/KL until 31/10, 10% to CX until 14/11.

    Hi All,

Apologies for the long winded message in advance but it might be worth the context.

Tldr: Should I try getting HSBC WE and cancel my Amex BAPP? I understand I might not be eligible for the bonus most likely. still worth it?

Didn’t want to create a new thread but I’m looking for some guidance. Fairly new to points, however I have held Amex Gold, HSBC WE (closed over 12 months ago) and currently hold AMEX BA PP card with basic barclaycard to cover any spend that can’t be captured on Amex.

I’ve been pretty biased towards collecting avios for Qatar and the companion voucher but recently I have been quite disappointed with my experience, especially with BA in terms of their availability, taxes, food and the Business class product in general. I’ve utilised the companion voucher already and have no intentions of securing anymore. Couple that with recent announcements around meal service changes for night flights and the fee on top, I’m struggling to justify the usefulness of the card.

With the above in mind, I am leaning towards HSBC WE again as the only other card is the Amex Platinum (can’t justify the cost on standard sign up offer) and VA – which isn’t appealing as I don’t travel to US much.

    1. As I closed the card over 12 months ago, would I get the sign on again?
    2. I would love to travel on Singapore Airline next so that appeals to me but how good is the conversion/availability normally?
    3. £1 in to 3 reward points means it’s 1.5 = 1 airline point seems better than the £1 to 2 points which was 2 = 1 airline point if i remember correctly. is that how you read it?

    Other info that maybe relevant.

    – I have used all of my avios so starting from scratch, ish.
    – I am on the old avios subscription and plan on letting that continue to give me the option to travel on Qatar from time to time.
    – I really don’t want to travel on BA anymore.

I would love your thoughts and what you would do? stick it out with BA PP Amex, wait for a better offer on Amex platinum? Make the switch even without the bonus offer?

    Thanks in advance.
