Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards IHG status soft landing?

  • 90 posts

Hi all, just noticed my IHG Status has updated from Platinum Elite to Gold Elite, however, I didn’t think IHG had soft landing. I initially qualified for Platinum on a status match which was good until end of 2023. I had enough stays accumulated to drop to Silver but definitely not Gold. Pleasantly surprised I suppose.

This may have a relevance as well. Has IHG changed what counts as qualifying nights. I have Diamond Status achieved mostly with stays at HIEs and HI mostly in UK. So far in 2024 I have stayed at a HIE paying and a HI using points. This is recorded as 1 Qualifying Night but as 2 Nights in the Milestone Rewards section. ie the Reward night doesnt add to the Elite status – I noticed a change how things were recorded in the last weeks of 2023. Have I missed a change?

I used the old Creation Paid Card in the past to gain useful points – without this now – I doubt if I can achieve Diamond in the future. Your thoughts would be welcomed.

Interesting. I have stayed 3 nights on points and 0 qualifying nights but 3 milestone nights.

Am diamond this year and aiming to get a lounge pass for 2 years by staying 40th night between Oct and Dec. Will be mostly redeeming.

Will be weird to have a lounge pass if my status is MEMBER

I think it’s a bug in their UI.

I’ve stayed 1 reward night and 1 paid stay thus far this year.

On one page (main account) it shows 2 nights as qualifying towards status. On another page (Earning Summary) it only shows 1.

The T&C still show that reward nights count towards qualifying stays: “Reward Nights consumed by Members count as Qualifying Nights towards Elite membership qualification.” – https://www.ihg.com/content/gb/en/customer-care/member-tc point 24.

Looks like a general thing I have just soft landed from Diamond to Platinum – stayed 20 paid nights last year

Am I likely to get a soft landing in 2025? I am currently Platinum as a carry over from having the paid card from Creation.

I have only 9 status nights this year, but as I had a couple of expensive stays I have earned 30k points. I’d be annoyed if I no longer had any IHG status – I could do a status run in the next week and get Silver, but I suppose Silver probably isn’t really worth it.

What does it say in your account? It should show which status you will have earned via nights or points.

To get Gold you need 20 nights or 20,000 qualifying points. How many qualifying points do you have? It will say in your account.

If you’ve got those 20k qualifying points then you’ll be a minimum of gold next year.

On that basis I wouldn’t do a matress run now and wait until next year to see if the CC status just rolls foreward.

If it doesn’t then I would conider spending $ 225 / £ 180 to get AMB which automatically gets Plat (and by far the cheapest paid way of getting Plat)
